Presario 1700 Hard drive

I am having difficulty with the hard drive in my presario. Lately it makes funny noises and I have been getting blue screen and operating system not found errors. I have backed up all important data and I want to replace the hard drive but before I break open the case I wanted to ask some questions.

How do I find out what kind of hard drive I have? (maker, and interface)
Where is the hard drive located in the 1700 Presario?
What is the best way to remove it?
What should I replace it with? (a reliable maker)
What are other things should I consider?
Where should I buy one? (I always been a fan of newegg)

Thanks

I found the answers to the questions above incase somebody else has to replace a hard drive on a compaq presario 1700T (see below). But I have one more question. The hard drive in my presario has an ATA-5 interface, can I use an ATA-6 drive?

How do I find out what kind of hard drive I have? (maker, and interface)
- IBM Travelstar ATA-5

Where is the hard drive located in the 1700 Presario?
- Left side of the touch pad, opposite side of the disk drive and battery.

What is the best way to remove it?
- Remove one screw and open the small panel. The hard drive comes out with the panel.

What should I replace it with? (a reliable maker)
- I purchased another travelstar (ATA-6, 7200 rpm, 8mb cache, 40GB).

Where should I buy one?
- bought it at newegg.com
