on cd roms the "x" means 150kb... so 48x means 48 x 150.. which equals 7200 kb/sec

on dvd burners the x equals about 1.3mb... so 2x means 2 x 1.3... which equals 2.6mb/sec

a 2burner can supposedly burn a 4.8gb cd in 30 min.

the kreep

Wow. An interesting bit of information from the kreep. If this tech is available for DVDs, why not for CD-RWs?

Yeah I know I'm very stupid.

Because they use different lasers, because of the disc structure, the cd laser is wider than the dvd, because the spaces in the cd are bigger than the ones in the dvd, this means more zeros and ones can be written to a dvd, and not so many to a cd.
Yeah, just consider density of information. A dvd is the same size as a cd but with a heck of a lot more capacity, the drive physically doesn't have to move as much to put info on there.

I think all this storage stuff is overrated. I'd still vie (spelling?) for a dense floppy drive just because it didn't require any extraneous programs besides just the hardware. I want another storage thing like that, like the thumb-storage things, but I'd rather not pay so much money for one.

A TRUE 16:9 ratio widescreen LCD perfect with a tv tuner / dvd-rom VPR Matrix from best buy offers one, however, I believe it's not true 16:9.
Eh, I personally can't stand seeing black unused space on my tv or LCD screen... I don't like widescreen for that reason. lol, if I owned a widescreen tv it might be different :-)
Widescreen is all right. Like on the Fujitsu P2000, I like that widescreen. I think, though, that for gaming, it would either be a big plus or a big minus.

I figure most people who get these machines are playing games, because few other things require such power.
Agreed... I wouldn't ever buy a widescreen laptop computer... only a widescreen plasma screen HDTV :-) But for $14000, they can shove it for now, lol. Excuse the expression... I just can't imagine paying that much for a tv... I could buy a Toyota Echo... or heck, I could by 7 perfectly good Sagers... :-)

Just to clarify... if those are all 8886s, that's 7 mp3 players, 7 tvs, 7 dvd players, 7 game consoles (get a hub and you've got a lan party), 7 workstations, 7 cd players, 7 burners, etc etc etc. :-)

Sexy.

What? I didn't say that...I would never say that about a laptop! Who said anything about me thinking Sagers are sexy? Liars!

Get the screen large enough and you can have a widescreen TV on an 8886.

At first An AZERTY French keybord option would be a great thing, HD 7200 TR/min
and all same but 2 Kg less
A double Xeon 2,8 GHz
3Dlabs® WildcatTM 7110 (AGP 8x, 128Mo).........
Lol double xeon. I admit that they should probably make international keyboards, but that would probably be just another thing to change that might jack up the price.

2 kg...that's ... 4.4 lbs yeah? Wow...that WOULD be sweet.

and yes! 7200 rpm!
normaly in Canadians and many of Europeans resellers you can have the AZERTY or QERTY keyboard for Same price
post #55 of 72
Well I mean that simply making it available might raise the price of the laptops.
Well, there are resellers in Europe, so I'm sure they have azerty keyboards available eh? I don't know if Sager does though...
*shrug*

I'd say ... I also want linux OS availability, but I think it wouldn't be very popular. That, and to keep it updated would be a hassle.

Thread Starter
It may not be exactly what you want, but you can always remove the keys and rearrange them and then choose a different WinXP keyboard layout. You won't have all the special symbols written on the keys, but it'll at least put the letters in a more comfortable position for you.
You woudn't even have to move the keys around if you know what they're supposed to be.
Move key, it's one solution i had think about, but it's dificult to "breack" something new, and i not sure it's good for the Warranty
if there's not AZERTY i will put external one when i will need it

What is the color of the 8886 (i can see it really on photos)
black could be a wish (it could be nice with my underwear) but not at 215 $
