Creative Audigy 2 ZS Notebook!!!!!!!! - Page 4

i'm not sure many of you guys understand what the audigy or indigo does for you. first of all, the terrible sound you guys get from your laptops is almost exclusively due to the terrible speakers. so even if these cards could make use of the internal speakers, it wouldn't help the sound. second, even if the card is inserted you can disable it and enable the internal sound card to take over audio functions like the headphone out and internal speakers as before.

also i have the indigo and no it doesnt use that much cpu power but i have made no measurements.

Since tech support continues, I'm not particularly worried by discontinuation. It's not like something like this would ever be upgraded anyway.

Err I take it you don't play Games? crap little speakers made No difference if I used External ones, I play UT2K4 and EVERYTIME I fired the link gun it studder, Q3 would studder on certian sounds, Deus Ex:IW(Unreal engine) would studder.

on a side not if I went into the ut2k4.ini and set the sound not to be used the link gun didn't studder me in ut2k4. but if I used thew AC 97 sound it studdered. This doesn't happen with the audigy.

Nothing against headphones at all. In fact, I have them on now.

There are just times that headphones become a nuisance and you just want to listen to the speakers. True, I could disable (or remove) the PCMCIA card.

Also, please don't get misled with my post. I have absolutely no problem with my sound on this system. However, I know the PCMCIA has to bring an even better experience.

Thanks.

god... I'm envious of you folks w/ the audigy. I went from an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum on my desktop to this POS onboard AC'97.... Same speakers.... but I get extremely NOTICEABLE drop in quality....

I paid nearly 200 for that Audigy 2 ZS Platinum... I really dun wanna shell out anymore... i'm broke.

i dont doubt that but if you notice i was talking purely about the sound quality because some previous posters had hoped that an audigy/indigo solution would help out their laptop speakers. i guess you can argue that the sound is better if it doesnt skip in certain spots while gaming but i was referring to more generally, does this sound better or does that sound better.

on a side note, people using the internal speakers should play around with the equalization. a good eq setting can do wonders with low end equipment.

Anyone having problems with the updated drivers from creative messing with the WiFi card?

If that's the way you aimed then your right on Cue, I took it the wrong way, I'm sorry. I knew from step one that external speakers were gonna be needed, the laptop speakers did thier trick I never really expected much out of them.

maybe u folks could help me out. i got the audigy notebook and popped it in, installed the drivers and i get sound, but it is all fuzzy/cackling/distorted. sometimes it sounds good and most times its cackling. when i test it and it says things like "front right" etc it sounds perfect, but everything else (games/music/windows sounds/etc) is terribly fuzzy/crackeling.

hey no worries Warden. we're all here for the greater good .

also, has anyone seen a review comparing the indigo to the audigy? i'm curious how a professional would compare their sound and their measured output.

on the echo over the audigy, i love the analogue volume control and the dual headphone outs and their placement. one thing i wish it had would be a digital out. that and multi channel support (including dvd-a) seem to be the only features that the audigy has on the echo.

on a side note, my computer has two stacked pc card slots and no builtin wifi. when i use the indigo with a wifi card i get some crosstalk occassionally from sending/recieving data. it sounds like some low level white noise. i'm not sure if this is due to my crap toshiba laptop or what but i'm curious if anyone has had this happen to them.

oh and also i wish the indigo had the plastic carry case. i think they really dropped the ball on that. by chance anyone know where i can pick one up that fits it?

the "crosstalk" is more likely happen because the soundcard and/or speakercables is not properly shielded. u get similar effects with cellphones close to it.

Not too sure, I don't have that issue, by chance you got all the new drivers?

yep i have the latest drivers for the card. could it be the ene cardbus? My drivers are dated 10/28/2003 for the PCMCIA. What is yours? That's the only thing that I would suspect. I ordered a new 1 and i am sending back this one. Maybe it's just a bad card. if that doesn't work, i might just reinstall windows.

newest driver for me is listed as a date is 11/18/2004

j4ever, does the crackling/popping stuff happen only after your rig has gone into standby or hibernation? Mine does that from time to time. If so, try disconnecting the ZSN and then plugging it back in. It's helped me.

And your ENE Cardbus drivers. I have older ones dated 8/14/2002 in Device Manager. I pulled them off Sager's website. Where did you get your newer ones?

I am having the same problems on my eMachines 6805 with ENE CB1410 cardbus controller. It's a pain in the ass. I emailed Creative yesterday about it, no response yet. I imagine they are getting quite a few tech support requests.

I did some reading about cardbus. Apparently the Windows driver isn't exactly the best. But, nobody really uses PCMCIA cards these days. It's not a big thing. But, now that we have a serious PC Card, we are seeing the problems from lack of development on that front.

I really hope Creative gets it worked out. I REALLY want this card to work well!

BTW, anyone have luck with the EchoEnEUtil ? I didn't see any change whatsoever.
Me neither swaaye. It seems to just be a fix for the ol' echo cards.

And from what I understand, the ENE drivers should work okay as long as you don't put your machine into standby/suspend. Hibernation seems fine as far as I can tell.

*sigh*
