Actually i JUST got finished installing my new nushield for my i9100 ...Ive heard stories about how long and hard it is to install, but it only took me 10 mins, lol...It looks really nice, just like the sony viao glossy screens

tempted to get this, but then again i mnight not like the glossy look..
its hard to look at the screen if your in class and there are lights on around you (700m)
Not fond of the glossy look but want something to protect the screen... I'll see if anything new comes up.

Anyone got a relevant part number for the Dell 15.4" screen?
Thx.
The screen itself? Or the shield?
The shield (nushield)...thx...

{edit} Didn't realize there were TWO pages in this thread, I just read the previous page with all the info I need...LOL...

Does Nushield do anything to improve contrast? The Xrites etc I've seen have much better blacks than conventional LCDs.

yes it does. Color is definately more vibrant.

is it easy to remove the nushield?

i had a hard to to remove a screen protector (very nice and gloss look) on my treo600. i hope it is not the same case for the nushield.

can it be washed out and reinstall on the LCD again?

BTW, does nushield have one for 600m 14.1 (i believe)?
i cannot find it from the nushield homepage

Spiike what do you use to transport your lappy? I'm planning on painting mine but most laptop bags have a fairly abraisive canvas-like enclosure and it seems like that would damage the paint. Something like the zeroshock would be nice but it seems to have a lot of slack with the 8600s...

stravos, I used to use my trager large sleeve, I know there is one by caselogic from walmart that is rather soft on the inside. These days I just slip it into my mobileedge premium bag. However, it has chipped the paint on 3 corners which took quite sometime to fix so that it looks like nothing happened.

Most of the sleeves are soft and foam inside. After clear coat cures, it shouldn't dmg your finish. At most there will be swirlmarks, but with some polish that can easily be removed. The mobile edge has little foam bubbles. These can catch the seem along the edge and lift off the paint causing a little chip.

btw there is some static cling when you first peel off the nushield from the backing and stick it onto the lcd. But afterawhile this wears off. So basically it's just in there wedged behind the lcd bezel. Mine has lost all of it's "static" and when I pull up on the lcd fast the nushield along the middle vertically lifts up. Of after transporting the nushield will shift sideways. But Static is not the way this was designed to stay on the screen as an email response from nushield had stated. I think the only way to definately get this thing to stay put, is to open up the bezel and tape it down.

Edit: Dumb Question - found answer at website
post #35 of 57
spiike, you said with quite some confidence that these nushields are just sheets of acetate film. I therefore have a question for you, hopefully its not off topic.

How difficult would it be to just get my hands on some of that and cut out a sheet and work it into the same result as a nushield, and how much might it be?

UPDATE:

Nevermind, actually read the previous posts instead of skimming them. I suppose I'll have to get the real deal.

yea i was pretty sure, but then the nushield rep comes here saying it's not. So I'm not sure anymore.

Spiike in your paintjob tutorial you sometimes speak as the chassis (at least the LCD cover) is made of metal.

Quote:
I instead sanded to the bare metal and put down a very very thick layer of primer.
My D800 is made of plastic I know it since it is broken

nushield

spike,

how did you get yours in there without taking the lcd apart. i got PO'ED with the process because i was trying not to get finger prints and other things on it and it was not working - could not slide it onto the lcd so i just tore the bezel apart and screwed it down that way. also, if i was reading the instructions right, the static side should be facing outwards... anyway, point of the post is that thing is a BITCH to put on.

mnguyen- 2nd paragraph of my first post. I did open it up. And according to the email written to me this isn't meant to stick by static cling, so don't get mad when yours loses it's static-ness in a couple weeks.

hauxon:
lcd cover- aluminum
lcd bezel- plastic
palmrest-plastic
base-plastic

The LCD cover of my D800 is made of plastic. It has deep scratches and a small portion of one corner has broken off. I'm waiting for a new LCD lid off Ebay ... it will be interesting to see if it will be made of metal.
