My upgradeable Area-51m BM revision 4001 - Page 2

The sticker is not on the back of the keyboard, that rev # is for the keyboard itself. If you pop the keyboard off and look at the metal panel the keyboard sits on there should be a small white sticker with a 4 digit code on it, that is your mobo rev #
post #22 of 75
The sticker should be on or near the memory slots. You will have to remove the keyboard and then the small metal cover under the KB on the right. Mine is a small pink colored sticker on the left memory slot that says 4001.

damn we are stupid, i was looking at the keyboard and got 00 also..gonna check now

ok i have the 40a3..wooooo..now how do i find out which VGA module i have?

as long as i dont have the M11p i am ok
m11p is the 9700, so at this time you are appearently not eligible for the upgrade without updating your mobo, but if jsd could with the 4001 then you may be able to with the 40A3.
if Jsd got a 9700 after telling AW tech.. he had a 4001 mobo,,, hmmmm
then don't we all have 4001 mobo's........hint,,hint...
Here is the thing, jsd has a 9700 (running I assume) and his mobo is 4001, on that chart it says that m11 doesn't work with 4001...dun dun dunnnn

I am using my Area-51m now with a working MR9700.
Ya, so obviously that chart is messed up, 4001 is supposedly incompatable with the m11 (9700) but it still works hehe

yup...
that chart is def wrong...i just checked my rev# and its 1006 (i bought it a while back)
and i am currently using the 5700go with no probs...so clearly they are not sure themselves
post #31 of 75
i belive the 9700 is the one that has the problems..the 5700 is offered to everyone as an upgrade

But the chart says no and if he has the NV36M (go5700) and I have MR9700 we know that the chart is wrong at this point in time not to say that it was never right. I guess Alienware fixed most of the problems they were facing with the upgradeability of the 51m.
lets hope so..i want my 9700 now!
tomorrow tomorrow ill love you tomorrow, my 9700 is only one day away!

None of this makes any sense. It would all imply that there was never any problem with upgrading to begin with.

If this is true, then much more than that chart is messed up...more like everything concerning the problem with upgradability of the Area51m that exploded over the past 6 months is messed up...
From what I've gathered none of the mobos are totally incompatible, it's just that some of them cannot provide adequate power to the video card causing it to fall short of it's full potential.
I had heard the same, but 3500 in 3DMark03 doesn't sound like it is falling all that short...

I just called alienware to see if i could upgrade, and they told me i could. So i ordered it up and i guess all i have to do is have a tech on the phone with me while install it so i can change some settings or something. I dunno this ****s crazy.
