Is your mobo one of the ones that supports the ATI9700? if so then it should run fine. My mobo doest support it so i have to wait to get it

No I have MB revision 4001 and according to the Alienware MB revision chart it does not support the MR9700 but it works fine.

weird maybe there charts are wacky??

Has anyone with the theoretically wrong MB revision who somehow managed to convince Alienware to sell them a Mobility 9700 had any problems yet? Besides just 3dmark, have you tried using it in all games, watching DVDs, etc.?

I have no idea what MB revision I have and didn't tell them.
whether or not they knew my revision I don't know.

I called, didn't bitch and they sold me the card. Took me a whole 15 minutes to process the order.

$ 195.73 shipped, arrived 2 days later.

Okay, so if my invoice at AW.com says

ALIENWARE AREA-51M 766 SAUCER SILVER 16.1" NOTEBOOK REV 2.0

what does this mean? I refuse to open up my comp or remove the keyboard to find out. Is there no other way to determine if I can use the MR9700? Why are they making this so confusing/hard/not easy to do or understand?

That means nothing. Just about all mobos are rev2.0 except the very first run, which were prolly just prototypes. There is no other way to tell unless you have x-ray vision. I don't feel it's that hard to remove the KB and look at a number and then call them and ask if you can order a 9700, you'll likely end up spending more time on the phone than removing the KB.

no doubt,,,30 seconds to remove keypad,, and that may include taking a 10 second break!!! then if you dont see the lil sticker with the 4xxx,,,, what another 30 seconds to remove the metal cover on the right side?????
c'mon guys,, its not that hard,, just look.,...

Yeh i ordered my Lappy back in Sept 2003, just as they came out. I am definitly looking to upgrade to the m9700. anyone who ordered around the same time have any luck with the new card?
hmm and when comes out this upgrade for 50$??? I'm waiting hopefully ;-)

....ooookay, anyone want to post a description of exactly how to remove the keyboard so I can check for this four-digit number? I am afraid I might break something...

(seems to me AW ought to know what they installed and therefore should be able to tell me what MB rev I have, but I guess simplicity isn't par around here)

you need to get a knife or something in there. there's three tabs along the top of the keyboard that you push back (towards the hinges) I start with the one on the right side and work my way left. The keyboard prettymuch pops out on its own, though you may have to lift slightly after pushing the first tab back.

you don't need to unplug it, just lay it back against your LCD while you work.

Congrads! I'm glad at least some people can upgrade nowadays.....
*Takes on senile old voice*
In my day the only way to get yer a 9700 was to walk uphill in the snow for 15 miles both ways to get to a computer and order one new... then wait 2 months fer it.
