Cleaning Heatsink question.

I tried to clean my heat sink the other day. After i removed the tension screws i tried to pull it out it would not come out easily so I did not try and further and put the sucker back togther. I was wondering can i pull the thing out without taking it off the cpu cause i dont want to have to buy AS5 and apply that it would be easier if the cpu would stay connected.

nope...to get the cpu out u gotta raise the little lever but you cant do that without taking the heatsink off

hope it helped..
and its the little lever beside the cpu socket..it comes under the heatsink and to release the cpu that has to be unlocked and straight up...soo u'll have to take the heatsink off for sure to do that

i was hoping to clean the heatsink good without removing it from the cpu but i guess i'll just remove my dvd/cd rw drive and floppy and blow air past the fans and hope to blow by the heatsink.

if im right about this..
dont you just have to take the plastic cover off of where the cpu/heatsink is...bloow air through the fins outwards towards the vent..and blow some through the fan underneath?..

On the 5690 when you take the panel off covering the heatsink the heatsink is butted right up against the case so that you cant actually stick the straw down to spraw across it.

the open part of the heatsink is at the bottem?...that mayb a lil harder to clean out buh im pretty sure the air would get it all out or at least moved around enough to get it out

I say just take it out. Sager's ship with the oh-so-loved thermal pad rather than arctic silver. So if you haven't ever put AS on your CPU, it's probably still just the pad, so you can just put the heatsink back on when you're done.

I know they use the pad but i thought once you take it off your cant put it back on.

Hmm, good point. I never researched that because I just went ahead and did Arctic Silver first time. It's not a hard process, it just takes time. Well worth doing though, especially if you're heatsink needs a good clean.
