Toshiba P25-607 and Windows Media Center Issues

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of purchasing a refurbished Toshiba P25-607 which is just around my price range. I've done an extensive research into this product and obviously with all products, there are issues and problems.

However, my main concern is that a quite a fair share of users have had problems with Windows MCE 2002 (which I understand comes pre-installed with the P25-607). Does anyone know anything bout this ? Is it possible to upgrade the MCE 2002 to 2004 free ? I read on the Microsoft site that this is possible simply by upgrading to XP Service Pack 2 or run a critical update.

Basically, is MCE 2002/2004 reliable ? Any crashes or wiping-out-entire-hard-disk kinda thing issues ? Would it be possible to replace the OS with traditional XP Professional instead ?

Please advise guys as the OS is the only thing holding me back from buying this bad boy (P25-607) !

Should I or should I not ? 'Cos last thing I need is hellish breakdown issues, losing all my years work of data, spending months arguing with notorious Toshiba techies, and smashing my laptop due to uncontrolled outrage and insanity.

OK, I had this Laptop and it was GREAT! Mind you there are laptops out now that are at a higher tech level, but this laptop is a solid machine! I ended up selling it because I wanted to go back to a desktop. Other wise I would still have it! So, you are making a solid buy, just make sure you get the extended warranty!

MCE 2002, does in gact come loaded on the 607. You should be able to contact Toshiba and they will send you 2004. That is what we all had to do back in Feb 2004. Toshiba only charged us shipping. So they should be able to get you into 2004 with much fuss! However, MCE 2005 just came out! I would be contacting Toshiba to get the 2005 instead of 2004, JMO.

As far as the video goes, the laptop can connect to the outside source in 2 ways. One is via the cable plugs into the front of the TV Module bay left side and the second way is via the composite connection. This way is the BEST way. Your laptop should have both. Once you get the composite connection working you will be in like flinn!

Good Luck and have fun!
