Tecra 8100 missing or currupt files

Thread Starter
I have 2 tecra 8100s that were working normally and fine, untill a windows update was run (not sure which one, express install was chosen). Didnt even think of MS updates to cause the problems of the 1st till it happened to the 2nd.

I am now getting 2 errors, it is either one or the other, every time i restart.

Windows cannot start because the following file is missing or corrupt

system32\drivers\pci.sys

or the same error with ntfs.sys instead of the pci.sys

any help would be greatly apreciated. I have data on these drives that is needed so i am hoping a complete reinstall is not needed.

thanx in advance

UPDATE: found my problem... apherently something i did caused ram slot b to stop functioning correctly in windows (although works fine in other OSs)... i was able to back up my files and test out some theories... it seems that somthing updated windows xp and caused this error with the ram slot, but only in the OS. now everything is working fine again (although ram is now 1 chip instead of 2)

I got the same problem

Hi, I have the same problem with Toshiba Tecra 8100. First, I thought the memory was broken so I bought a new one. It still gives the same problem. How did you fix it? Did you have to reinstall a new OS? What kind of OS?

Thank you!! I have been trying to fix it for months.

Hi guys

I too have the same problem! It certainly is a fault with memory slot B, and now I'm running on 128MB which is pretty crappy! Does anyone know what the exact fault is and why it would occur. Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi there,

as far as I know (but I am quite sure), it is general fault of that series. The ram slot is defective and you will not get it to work again! I had it on 2 of 7 Tecras. There is nothing you can do.

You didnt say what Operating system you are using. Have you tried booting with your OS CD and use the repair option???? That should just load the OS overtop itself and you shouldnt lose any data

Ooops. Missed your update. Glad its partially working.

are they junk?

I hate to hear that about those 8100's.I just bought one.I hope I didn't buy a piece of crap. Hopefully no more than I'll use mine it will last Awhile. If this is a problem then Toshiba should have had a recall on those or did they?

I've had the same problem sith slot B. Fortunately I know a technichian that was able to resolder the slot onto the MB and I'm back in buisness. Originally, this happened to me in oct 2003 and the slot failed again the following january but the shop fixed it for me under the expired warranty. Now, a year later it happened again and the guy fixed it for me again, but for 1/2 the price it originally cost me. with that and the LCD inverter problem, I think it's time to unload this tecra and get a new one.
