My 8790 Graphics issue

Hey guys,
Well im new to the forums and new to sager notebooks but ive heard a lot of good about them and thats why i chose to invest in one. i got the 8790 with a
17" WSXGA+ "WideAngles" TFT Active Matrix w/ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 w/256MB DDR
3.4GHz Intel PentiumĀ® 4 HT w/512k L2 Cache - 800MHz FSB
1,024MB (2 SODIMMS) PC3200 DDR400 Dual Channel Memory
40GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive at 4,200 RPM
Combo 8X DVD/24x10x24 CD-RW
Well after doing all the updates i could find i finally tried to play Rome total war and when i started the game everything worked fine until tiny little pixelish specks appeared on the screen, then it got progressivly worse and worse (in screenshots). Now after numerous driver switches and trials with settings the screen itself seems to be having trouble. The image seems to go to a negative (like film) jumps during the game but i cant take a screen shot of it so it must be my moniter, also the image jumps like bad tracking on a tv! even when the game shuts off my background takes 3 minutes to stablize! Also when i close the game and restart it the problem is still there, i have to completely shut the laptop down in order for it to start fresh, before the same problem arises. I cant believe it . I tried some other games on it (namely rainbow 6 raven shield) and came up with the same results. So what is the problem? drivers or is my card/screen bad? anyone have the same problems? thanks for your time

Search the forum. There were a couple of people that were advised by Sager to loosen a couple of screw (under the keyboard) and that fixed the problem.

hmm

That wouldnt void my warrentee would it? i searched for similar issues and found stuff about the flickering but nothing about how it is fixed, only that you have to send it back about 3 times before its replaced. did that screw loosening problem apply to the screen issue or the graphics of the game?

results?

well i loosened some of the screws last night before i went to bed and ran a few test games. it seems the color inversion and flickering stopped but the colored artifacts (like in the pics above) still show up. Should i loosen them moer? Is this a software issue now? I have dl'd the new bios and drivers but ive yet to burn the bios and install it (hopefully today) what is this about benchmarking i hear? ive never heard of it (newb ? ) Anything that would help with this would be great. Thanks again guys

I would lean toward suspecting a bad video card. ContactSager for advice and/or RMA.

This is exactly the problem I had with my first 8790. Get it replaced with Sager.

fixed

i fixed it, now this may be cause of a bad card but check out the newer post i had...i had to drop the speeds of the video card because it was overheating. didnt affect gameplay at all either.

I had the same problems that you were experiencing with my 8790... I called Sager and they told me something was defective.

Upon your suggestion and experience I underclocked the chip. Whats weird was that the problems went away just like yours did, but the games are just as playable as they were before -- which doesn't seem very right. Im mostly playing Flight Simulator 2004 in the native resolution of 1680x1050 with the details bumped up, you would think it would be slower than before, but it runs well..Im starting to scale the clock speed back up slowly to see where exactly I run into problems. I don't believe this is a problem with the 9700 mobile chip, but rather a heat issue, perhaps dust has built up over time.. which would also explain why over time the problem for me has gotten worse and worse. Just a thought, but thanks for the idea.. I would have never underclocked the chip.
