17" Toshiba Widescreen w/ 800 FSB Launched!

Toshiba has launched a 17" Widescreen notebook with a 2.8 Ghz processor, hyperthreading, and a 800 FSB for $2099

I believe that makes this the first laptop currently available supporting 800FSB.
Very sad is that the video card is only a 32mb FX 5200...What in the $#@! is Toshiba thinking? They could have had a kick-ass system here and they ruined it with a low end video card. Also the HD is only 4200rpm instead of the 5400rpm offered in the S705, and the screen is only XGA?!#!@?
Had Toshiba offered a 5600 FX Go/9600 graphics card, and upped the resolution on the screen they could've easily taken an early hold on the market for 800FSB laptops.
I know I would've returned my new S705 for one..

dont ditch the resolution

its the same as the apple 17inch right? If not then excuse my comment

Good to hear that the technology is finally here. It's too bad that Toshiba neutered the rest of the laptop. I'm in the market for a laptop with an 800MHz bus and a hyperthreading P4 for 3d design work, but I also need a fast hard drive and at least a 5600go or 9600...

Toshiba could have had it with this computer, but they decided to cut too many corners... plus the design looks like .

I went on to PC Nation's website, pcnation.com, and they have a Toshibla P25-S607 listed. It looks like this model has a 64 MB video card and the DVD multi drive. I can't find any other info on that model though.

WTF?????

They neutered it!!!!

CNet's First Take hints that Toshiba has a second model of this laptop coming out with MCE.
Maybe the newer model will have a better video card and a 5400rpm HD.

I think these guys are toshiba have the same brain damage that the rest of PC makers. The symtoms here are:

- no wuxga, I don't care that is same as Apple's they suck too!
- no highend graphics card.
- waisted space aound keyboard instead of a full keyboard, as retarded design as Apple too!
- slow HD

sick and tired

Ok in that toshiba website there's a link to provide your feedback. I wrote this:

Title:
your new 17" laptop is a big dissappointment.

Comments:
the 17" screen @ 14440x900 gives me less pixels than a 1600x1200 uxga. Is that what you guys called cinematic? I would expect this screen to be WUXGA (1920x1200)

The Video card is so ****ty that I almost fell of my chair when I read it on the specs. 32MB? really that's it? only 32 MB? Please guys put in here a real video card, what about an ATI 9600 with 128MB and stellar performance? I mean I would be the one paying for it after all right?

Also the HD does not even have speed listed, so that's a scary thought, let me guess is a 4500rpm isn't it? two words for you: Hitachi 7200 rpm.

If you ever offfer these specs shoot me an email and I'll give you my credit card number and shipping info,

Thanks,

Hey who knows maybe they or another laptop maker listen. I'm so ready to buy a great laptop, too bad nobody makes one yet!

At $2000 with those specs they were looking for people like me... non gamers. I have a 32 meg card and have no trouble at all. I have an S255 toshiba with a 2.4 pent chip, 512 ram and have no problems with this as my main machine. When I first purchased I read the specs and said this would be my travel machine. Well I gave away my desktop within a week of getting this baby onboard and moved on... no regrets. Heck I thought I would die with a 4200 rpm hard drive, but I don't see a difference in anything.

I build websites, build applications (small apps), autoruns, self instals, educational tools, etc. I do limited graphic with macromedia fireworks, etc. No problems.

Now, if I was to get my hands on a desktop with the latest pent, more ram, fast hard drive, etc., etc. yes, I might say this is slow, but it does everything I need fast and it runs like a dream.

Yeah, I know it's unheard of but not every laptop/notebook was made for gaming *GASP* Yes I know it's true, but face it.

Be thankful they put that in there rather than the Intel Extreme (lol) solution that is in a lot of 'Higher-end' notebooks.

And the HDD I honestly believe that it's just braggin rights to say you have a 7200 RPM drive or something faster than the slower ones. I have a 7200 and I can honestly say without benchmarking or such I can't tell the diff between the two. Besides that the 7200 runs hotter. Not near enough diff to warrant the price difference anywayz.

Anyways tho, that is looking to be a sweet notebook IMO.

I bought the Toshiba P25-S607:

17" screen, P4 2.8 Ghz with HT (!), 512 DDR 2100 RAM, 60 Gig HD @ 5400, ATI 5200 with 64 MB Dedicated, Wi-Fi, DVD-R, -RW, RAM (@2) and CDRW.

I use this system as my sole computer and LOVE it! Has 3 fans and have never heard one. Has a super fast DVD/CD and never a noise. I have never felt any heat at all and I run it ALL day! The screen is PERFECT, no dead pixels or coloring or anything. WI-FI is running without a hicup! I have Creative Labs Extigy running through my USB nd use their 5200 Inspire speakers (5 small and 1 sub-woofer). I use Gyration's wireless keyboard and optical mouse (which you can use without any surface contact, the BEST! I have a Belkin 4 port USB Hub setup. I use HP's All-In-One 6110 printer, the best DOES Everything Printer! I never knew I would love it as much as I do, I now wonder how I did without it (printer, fax in and out, scanner, copier and black and color). I have the Belkin Nostromo N52 Gamer Keypad and wonder how I did without it! I also have TOSHIBA's 3 year warranty.

As you probably have noticed, I have a TOP NOTCH computer and TOP NOTCH accessories to ensure that no component will drag the computer down or hold it back! This computer and all equipment is a God Send and I simply Love It and have never looked back!
