ETA on ATI9K power management?

Does anyone know when we will be getting drivers for the Radeon9K that have the powerplay (I think thats what it's called) features enabled? I'd like to squeeze some more battery life out of my 8886.

so the powersaving features of the mobile chip are not available at this time? that cant be right...what would be the point of it?

My understanding is that the power saving features exist but aren't implemented in the current version of the drivers (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Well, my understanding is that the card automatically goes to power saving mode when you run on battery power. On my lappy, I didn't notice any power saving controls in the drivers either, though those drivers are kinda old. Anyone who has the newer drivers installed have power settings they can tweak? If I'm not mistaken, you don't really have much control over that... It's mostly automated.

PowerPlay is indeed the term. See a good explanation of it here:

Since I don't have my new 5660 yet, I don't know if the stock drivers have PowerPlay enabled, but from what I have read, not many notebooks have the hardware/software enabled for PowerPlay yet. A shame really as this feature would make the Sager's a killer machine - raw power and better battery life too, if configured correctly using PowerPlay.

I would hope Sager has the hardware support for this already on the motherboards of the shipping units now and all it would take is driver support later, but my inside info says no. I hope they are wrong.

If anyone has any corrections to this, please post here.
