5690 loses mouse during gaming

I have a new 5690 that I got from eBay. The seller said it was "nearly new". When I got it, it was totally NIB and seems to be in perfect condition.

I have been running UT2004 and DOOM3 for fun, and I noticed in both programs that the USB mouse becomes unresponsive during heavy game play. It just sort of goes dead. Exiting the game and messing around with the mouse did not bring it back, ie, I could not plug the mouse into another port and restore function. The mousepad still works during these issues.

I rebooted the machine and the mouse comes back.

My mobmeter shows that the unit is running at 42-44 C during normal use and around 50 - 56 C during heavy use.

Does anyone know why my mouse quits? I might try plugging it into the PS2 port.

I use a Logitech laptop cordless mouse. Never had a problem. Love this mouse and recommend it highly. Only bad part is the hard dongle that hangs out of the USB port.

Sounds to me like a bad mouse to me, I would try another one and see what happens.

I use Logitech as well, cordless for everything and corded for Gameplay, the both work really well, you can have them both plugged in at the same time. For gaming, I would recomend the corded , the MX-510 is outstanding. It is USB.

Edit 1 - Also if you are plugging it into a hub, try plugging it directly into the pc, just to make sure it is not the hub.

More developments...

I moved the mouse to the PS2 port with a PS2 adapter.

This has improved the problem. It also happened once while I was just browsing.

Secondly, while gaming, there are times when my character simply fires his weapon all the time, like the CTRL key is stuck down.

I am going to try my logitech mouse and see what the results are. I am suspicious that the USB ports are shutting down in general, also the meyboard is probably just new and needs a little more typing.

Your computer might be turning off the mouse to save power. If it is, this could fix it:

1) Right click on My Computer and hit properties. Under the Hardware tab, hit the Device Manage button.
2) Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers option. Bring up the properties on the first 'USB Root Hub' and go to the power tab.
3) Untick both boxes. Repeat this for the rest of the Root Hubs.

Thanks Dragon_Mech. That's exactly the tip I needed. Had the same problem gaming Doom3 on my 5690 and my Logitech mouse would go dead. All fixed now.
