How to tell the difference between UXGA and SXGA

Hi,
I just got my brand new sager 5690 with the UXGA screen and i was expecting it to have the super glossy screen. Im a little concerned that pctorque may have shipped me the SXGA by mistake. It does max at 1600x1200 resolution which is why i thought everything was ok. Is there a sure fire way to tell the difference between the two screens. Is it supposed to have the super glossy surface?

The SXGA will not support 1600x1200, and the UXGA does not have a super glossy coat. The only models sporting at glossy coat are the 8790/4750/4790 with the Wsxga+ screen.

It is a UXGA screen. The SXGA is maxed out at 1400 x 1050. I don't think the screen is a super glossy like the sony screens.

Both PC Torque's and Sager's websites list the 5690 as having either the SXGA + Active Matrix or UXGA + Active Matrix with super-wide viewing angle. Neither mentions the glossy screen for the 5690.

A 15" UXGA screen's native resolution should be 1600 x 1200 so I believe you have the UXGA as ordered.

Also, I think the glossy effect is only on the models with 17" screens. I could be wrong though!

As people have noted here, it doesn't have the super-glossy screen. However, you can get a NuShield (search the forums, they're everywhere) and get the same effect while protecting your screen at the same time.

Well just to make sure everybody stays confused, hehehe, the 4380 from PCTorque does come with a glossy 15" SXGA+ (1400x1050) screen. Now whether this same panel is used in the 5690 with the SXGA+ screen is anybody's guess.

Is it really the same effect?

according to drawmonster, the 3790+nushield looked just like his 8790 screen, which is a glossy (though a little smaller).

Though make sure that when you put on the screen, you dont get any air bubbles or crap like that.

The effect is that it makes the screen slightly glossy. I can't find the post right now, but there's one saying that if you don't think the "front" of the shield is glossy enough, just flip it over for even more glossy goodness!

EDIT: Some random anecdotal testimony:

Searching for 'nushield glossy' produces a LOT of hits on the forum also.
