I figured it out...it was an error on Sonystyle. When customizing the S170, the Mobility Radeon 9700 option is supposed to add $190. But two nights ago it was subtracting $280 from the price! But alas! it was immaterial. One could not order an S170 by that time anyhow and the next day the S170 option is removed completely. So Sony couldn't care less about that...

Nice setup by the way!

About the same as my coming S2XP only that it has 80GB HD and 1.8a CPU(ok, quite different setup, but bt and wlan of course!) and only 512MB ram(but that'll be double soon if I know myself correctly..)

how much did this babe cost dude?... please also tell me if the S2XP has
xbrite techn. and how fast is the optical drive and if it has fan noise or/and heat issues and how much it weights and to what series this babe correspond to? (and and and and lol).... thanks very much, i'll post nice pics you all see guys plus a real honest review since my feelings wont get in the way of good and bad sides of the lappy (cause i think im in love, blind love!).

Here in Sweden you can buy a "home-pc" which is really bought by your employer and then you pay it off by a monthly fee for 36 months TAX FREE which is essential especially in the most tax heavy county in the world where there is 25% tax on all electronics, as well as other stuff! So the price is 19490 SEK which is about $2670..

The S2XP is a prebuilt S270 with XBRITE(aka XBLACK) and the DVD-writer is the same as the S270 2X +/- R/RW and weighs 1.89KG like the S270.

When will you have your S270 ready for orgasm?
what do these things weigh with the two types of batteries and what's the batt life?
from what I can remember on the S170 topic:

around 3 1/2 - 4 hours refular battery 4.2 lbs
around 6 hours with extended batter at .5 lbs more

Sony does make the best batteries in all their products. My t68i cell phone was a good example, had days of talk time.

i now have it finally...my S270P (they put it as that since win xp pro)

hello guys... i just got my beautiful lappy, so i cant as for right now give the complete the review of it, but so far i can tell or ask why did my S270 didnt come with the slim ac adaptor that has the vaio word written on? it supposed to come with the s series right? instead i got a squared big ugly one... another thing is the damn 60 gb hard drive, oh my god it sucks ass pretty bad, its slow as hell believe me, it even makes the usual noises as those old cheap desktop ones, i cant believe sony selling this for such a nice lappy.... everything else since ok.... oh no wait!!! the ****in' bundle software that it comes with its damn annoying painful etc, it has so much garbage, i dont recommend what i did " getting win xp pro" with the purchase.

thanks and let me know of anything please.

you pips rock!!!

Don't forget about us! We're eager to hear your report on the fan noise.

Congrats! my order was delayed a week, and I will be out on business for a week. Hopefully, when it gets here, Fedex will leave it and not send it back :/
When I come back I should be able to put the S170 and S270 side by side and note the differences

Not sure what you mean by slimline AC adapter, the one I got for S170 seemed normal, how big is it supposed to be?

its this one:

I just notice that the order status page on Sony is working a little bit now. It actually says "Sent for production" and the date. Hopefully, it'll inform me of the rest of the details and not just inform me of when it was shipped.

Also, I looked at the priceds of 512 mb memory on kingston and the price is up to $189 each. That sucks, I think it used to be $129.

hey, ScorpionTico, can you tell me if your laptop was shipped the same day it was "ready for shipment" on the status page. Mine says ready for shipment and no notification yet that it was shipped :/

Any news on the European S2XP fan noise? Has the noisy fan been replaced in all recent machines?

Looking at sonystyle.com, it seems that S260/270 (as well as the new T series) are supposed to come with AC16V8 slim adaptor instead of the AC16V6 that come with S150/170 and other older series like TR, V505. The picture of AC16V8 on sonystyle.com is exactly the same as AC16V6 and no specs are provided , so it's kind of hard to tell if Sony actually change anything -- externally or internally.

You might want to check the model no. on your AC adaptor. I am also interested in the output (volts and amps) of the AC adaptor that you received because the problem of S170's adaptor not powerful enough to charge and run CPU full speed discussed in the S-series thread.
I did not know there were two different adapters. I will check the model number when I get it. I hope it is smaller than the one for the s170.

I have a question about the differences between the S170 and S270, since you brought it up. I made sort of a backup disc for my S170 that I'd like to use on the S270. It is am image of the OS plus the S170 drivers. Do you think I will have any issues installing it on an S270? Other than the new fan, and now the AC adapter, I didn't think there was any difference between the systems. Hopefully, that holds true for the drivers and such. Also, the S170 and S270 I purchased have the exact same hardware configuration.

while I'm here... does anyone have any experience with the Sony neoprene case:

http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTE..._NotebookCases

I'm waiting for shinza to come out with a 13.3" zeroshock sleeve, but this might have to do for now. The only thing that has me weary is the price. This is extrememly cheap for Sony standards. And you usually get what you pay for...
The s270 just arrived! I can confirm I got the AC16V8 adapter. ITs different from the S170 (don't have it with me right now). However, I think the other adapter is preferable. The thickness of this adapter is greater. The width is slimer though.it outputs 16 volts at 4 A. I got to go on a business trip for the week soon, I'll see if I can compare it to the S170 when i come back. Just need to replace the HD real quick. Tthe screen looks fine btw.

omg, one of the screws is messed up and i cant get it out. Been at this for half an hour+ it completely "eaten through" so that no screw driver can make it turns. My god this is annoying.
I am thinking about getting the S series myself. Are there any real difference between the s170, s260 and s270 besides the usual configuration. Because I can find a used one for a cheap price?
