I8600 Hard Drive Questions

Thread Starter
1) Why is my "60GB" drive only showing 52.3GB total space? I can understand it being a little off from 60, but 7.7GB low...WTF???

2) How can I tell if its the 7200RPM dive or the 5400RPM???

TIA

#2 open it up and see what it says, if you didn't specify during the order 60GB 7200 RPM then you didn't get it.

Try looking in the FAQ... I can't remember off the top of my head for #2.

#1 is in the FAQ as well.

To check hd:
go to My Computer>Properties of C:\>Hardware> See if your hard disk's name has 7260 in it
If there is, I think it should be 7K60

Its all decimal vs binary.

Decimal:
Hardrive makers classify 1 gigabyte as 10 ^ 9 = 1,000,000,000 bytes (1 billion)

Binary:
An actual gigabyte according to a computer is 2 ^ 30 = 1,073,741,824 bytes

So the Hardrive maker labels it 60 gigs but in reality it is

60,000,000,000 / 1,073,741,824 = 55.88 GB

The other 2 or 3 gigs must be a hidden partition, your swap file, or something of that sort
