I'm about to cancel!(Phase 9)

First off, this is my first post. I luckly found this site tonight, so maybe I could get some guidance from you AW owners out there! I have wanted an Alienware for a few years now and finally ordered one on 29 July. My complaints are the long wait and not being told my order was awaiting my video card. Here is one of my e-mail exchanges so far.

Customer 09/18/2004 03:43 PM
Could you please give me a status (date) of when my computer will be completed. I ordered on 7/29/2004 and it's only on phase 8. When I ordered the computer online the completion date was supposed to be 8/23/04. I understand things happen, but I have not been given a reason for the delay. Thanks for your help!

Response (Alienware Support Team) 09/21/2004 02:24 PM
Dear Mr. Thacker,

Thank you for contacting the Order Status Team.

The "Estimated Date" for this order to be shipped is during the second week of October. This is because the PNY GEFORCE 6800 GT 256MB PCIE, which your system needs, is back ordered and we are waiting for it to arrive.
We are doing our best to ensure that your system will not be delayed any further.
As soon as we have further information about the movement of your order, we will be sending you an email notification.

If you have any questions, please let me know and I will gladly help you.

Best regards,

Maria Jose Lopez

The day before this last response from AW, my order moved to Phase 9 and it's been there ever since. Go figure! I didn't like this answer or the way I was not told my order was on hold. So I called them the next day and was going to cancel my order( I tried to cancel by sending an email, but was told I had to call their customer support) She asked why and I told her that I didn't like the way I was being treated blah blah blah. She said I needed to speak to her supervisor!! WTF for! It's my order I will cancel if I want. Well, I was on hold for 8 min awaiting her supervisor and got tired of it and just hung up. Haven't heard anything since and I'm still showing up on their order status page. I do want this computer, but not the BS! Any suggestions from anyone?

Thanks for the quick reply! When you pay $3300 for just the computer(no monitor) you tend to get "stressed out" and expect better service than this. Just my opinion man! Just seems like a helluva wait. lol Thanks again!!!

Coldgin,

I feel your pain...see the PC in my signature...I'm waiting on a PCI Express card myself.

If you look around, the 6800's are near impossible to find in PCIExpress. Heck, there isn't even a listing on Newegg of a backorder.

I have it on good accord that they're about two weeks away from having them at Alienware.

So hang in there during the wait...you and I can be each other's Anger Management buddies

Oh ya, and welcome to the forums bud

I paid almost 5 grand for mine (I have to pay taxes) and had to wait for the video card as well. I know they're telling the truth about it, because I've read about the delays and haven't seen one in the store yet. Believe me I feel your pain on waiting. They delays were crushing when I was so excited about getting my pc. If you really want your PC quicker, you can switch to an available video card. I really wanted the x800xt pe card, but they got in a bunch of 6800 ultras so I made the switch. Keep checking with them to see if either card comes in. They made the switch for me no problem and I'm very happy with the Nvidia card. Good luck!

omg you ordered it july 29 and haven't received it yet? I see what alienware is doing here. It's a very good accounting practice for them financially to get the money up front and not have to deliver the product for months. That makes them money. You can't tell me that if someone has waited that long that they couldn't just go to the local computer store and buy one to satisfy you. I would have cancelled the order personally.

Hang in there man. I know a guy who waited 101 days for his system. I think thats the record.
Heh if I where you I would have droped it after 30 days. :/

Because everywhere else I look I dont see an issue with getting PNY 6800 GT PCIE cards. I know for a fact that the CompUSA's local to me are fully in stock and have stayed that way. I mean honestly why would you wait for months?

Good luck in what ever you pick, but I would have quit months ago.

Alienware uses BFG Cards. Not PNY.

another thing to remember... keep an eye on your Alienware configuration while your waiting for your Custom system to be built. If the cost goes down, just call Alienware to make sure that you get the lower price.

Yeah, since the time I ordered my notebook on the 23rd, and while I was stuck on either phase 3 or 5, I noticed the price drop 3 times. The first time i was able to upgrade my cpu from a 3.2 to a 3.4. The other two times I got a total amount of like 96 bucks refunded to my credit card which I saw last night had gone through already.

I reconfigured the same setup today and it seems to be going up right now.

I then stand corrected. On the BFG site AW is listed as a builder.
