Not a small purchase. The reason I'm disclosing all this is to let the reader know that I am very serious about my laptops/PC's.

I would like to advise anyone who plan on purchasing from Hypersonic to think long and hard about it before doing so, because my personal experience with them has been a nightmare. I will never purchase from them again!

I ordered my laptops on 8/27/04 and was promised a delivery date of 9/13/04, painted. Wow, I thought, maybe the rumors are true. Sometimes they do ship order very quickly. NOPE, WRONG!!! The date got pushed back to 9/29/04, fine no problem there (The website does state 4 weeks for custom paint job). Emailed order status a week before the estimated ship date, they said no problemo "you should receive your laptops on or around the estimated ship date. Cool, I thought. NOPE, WRONG!!! Sorry, but there is a delay because the display units we received were defective, gotta get a new shipment and install them before shipping. I'm ready shoot myself. What happened to "on or around the 9/29/04". So I finally receive my laptops today 10/13/04, but no bluetooth mouse (painted to match). What gives? There excuse is they were out of stock on the bluetooth mouse when they got around to ship my laptops. OUT OF STOCK!!! They had my money for a month and a half, a month and a half and they neglected to purchase my bluetooth mouse and have it in stock to ship with my order. What kind of a stupid lame excuse it that. OUT OF STOCK. The life cycle of PC hardware is about 6 months and to have more than a sixth of that wasted is very upsetting. Here is an example: When I ordered my laptop the fastest DVD plus minus combo drive available was 4X, when I checked Hypersonic's website today the fastest is 8X. Kinda sucks doesn't it.

Now for the actual units that shipped. The fabulous paint job I waited a month and a half for has a hairline crack and a 1/4" scratch. The power supply unit has bare wires showing. The paint job around the Hypersonic emblem is slopppy. I'm also missing a rubber footing on the bottom of one of the units. Oh yeah, the drive bay for the dvd burner wasn't painted. To be fair the other laptop had a perfect paint job, no bare wires, and all its rubber footings. But, the drive bay on that unit wasn't painted either. (can you guys tell I'm deeply deeply regretful of purchasing from Hypersonic).

I'll post some pictures tommorrow.

DO NOT BUY FROM hypersonic EVER!!! I WON'T.

Now if I can only get the networking to work on the Hypersonic laptops.....

Thats horrid..but i do think the 8790's were on back order in sept...that might be why the big delays. Im curious..with you spending that much money..why didn't you wait for the 9860's release next month? At any rate..a hairline crack in the paint is not acceptable and I do hope you make them accountable for all the other problems you suffered as well..

Interesting, but I don't see the sloppy painting around the logo. It sorta looks like 2 tiny bumps or something, but I can't tell from the pictures. Did you check the boxes, wrapping, and peanuts/foam for the rubber foot?

Don't you think that there shouldn't be any bumps or lumps or clumps of paint anywhere on this laptop? Especially around the logo. I called that sloppy. I waited a month and a half plus paid $400.00 for the special paint job. I expect better. Yes I did check the box and the wrapping. No rubber footing anywhere to be found.

I have an update!!!

I have been having problems networking the new Hypersonic Aviator GX7 with my small business network. Spent the better part of Wednesday afternoon pulling my hair out.

I initially thought it was the Windows XP Pro SP2 firewall or some other security measure Microsoft had installed in SP2.

Couldn't solve the problem.

That evening I brought the computer home to try and connect to my WiFi. Wouldn't you know it I went bald. No luck. Couldn't get networking to work period.

This morning I had the bright idea of installing an old PCMCIA NIC card I had lying around. The trusty old 3com, heck, I didn't have anything to lose.

Taaadaaa... I was online in two minutes and transfering files.

Scratching my bald head, I decided to contact tech support at Hypersonic PC. After describing what my problem was and telling them the problem existed for both laptops and I was able to get online and network my pc with a 3com PCMCIA NIC card ( take a breath ) he told me to send the laptops back.
So as I write this my laptops are on there way back to Hypersonic tech support to be checked out.

God only knows how much longer I'll have to wait in order to receive fully functioning laptops. Maybe they'll arrive just in time for me to replace them with the new models. (I'll also have new hair growth to pull on).

Brutal. Why not just return them?

With the money you spent, you could order a 9860 with better components from PCTorque in a week or two.

Zoober, I think your right. I just returned both the Hypersonic laptops today, I'll be getting a full refund. Now, what do I do? Trying to get a nice laptop is not an easy task. So when is the 9860 coming out? Weeks or months?

High cost Lotsa problems

The biggest problem I see is you ordered a piercing metalic blue laptop and I see pics of a read one, wow they got the color wrong.

I know how ya feel about your computer, but just because you spend alot of money doesnt always mean you will get great quality. I Paid 5000.00 for a alienware laptop, had it for 2 weeks and the screen died, I have onsite service, well they didnt want to come out to fix it, so I had to send it back. well 3 weeks later I get it back and it still doesnt work right. so Had it now for aver a month and only used it for 2 weeks.

So go to wal-mart buy a 600.00 laptop, that thing will never die. but spend alot on a high-end computer and there is too much room for error.

Oh yea my laptop went through 3 200 point inspections and it was still shipped out bad. They figure hey your a snobby rich guy and they treat ya like crap.

Thank-you for the warnings! I am looking to buy my first high end laptop and I looked into both companies. Just curious, do all of the 17 inch WSXGA have that high gloss screen? I want the SXGA resolution, but my eyes can't handle the glare. How bad is the glare on your systems?

Had the same problem with them on my AX7. Working on getting my damn money back. God they are frustrating. Anyone thinking about purchasing a laptop from them, here is a clue you need before doing so:

-You have about a 25% chance on getting a good laptop with no problems.
-You have about a 10% chance getting good reliable customer support from them.
-You have a 50% chance of them completely screwing up your order with missing components or DIFFERENT components (Such as getting a regular Pentium 4 3.4 instead of Extreme addition which is an $800 difference)
-And you have about an 80% chance of wanting to send your unit back for a different one from a DIFFERENT company.

These are all guesses from my experience and what I have read from buyers on these forums and others.

P.S. Someone really did recieve a Pentium 4 3.4 ghz processor when he ordered the Extreme addition of that processor. This would have gotten by if he hadn't checked his cach. I bet they tried to do this on purpose and take more money from the guy. He spent an extra $800 EXTRA just on that processor, but I guess they just didn't check what he ordered :\ Now that's a terrible company in my opinion.

At the same time, I wouldn't let one person's bad experience stop you from ordering from Hypersonic.

I've had excellent luck so far with my CX5, though I spent far less money, and didn't get mine painted. Just keep in mind you often hear the horror stories, and not the happy ones. And actually it seems like Hypersonic was rather accomadating with this guys problems, though they really shouldn't have happened.

Good luck getting something that makes you happy though.

Try Falcon!!!!

The only company so far I didn't hear any complains rgd QC or CS is Falcon Northwest. They have a small line of NB but they have the 17", their custom paint is outstanding and they are very kind also. There is no 100% company, all of them are going to have problems now and then. The problem is how often they have it. It seens Hypersonic is specializing on that.

Newhypersonic, if you can wait another 4 weeks or so, give Falcon NW a call. I think you will be luckyer there.

Falcon Northwest

Wonderful company if you like taking out a 2nd and 3rd mortgage out on your house to pay for one. Estimated costs start at about $3500 and go up quickly from there.

I'm very happy for you Rollingstash, hopefully you will enjoy your laptop for many years to come. I on the other hand did not have such luck.

Well after returning the two Clevo machines to hypersonic I have just order Two Clevo machines from Sager. I purchased the Sager NP8790-S with 2 gigz of ram and a total of 140 gigz of HD. Basically the same machine but cheaper (not painted). I've been looking around for a decent laptop and I came up with nothing that fit what I needed better than the Clevo rigs. Thought about waiting for the 9860 but decided I would end up spending way too much money on that machine. So I'll be picking up my Sagers this morning hope they work like they're advertised.

It may be to late, but if you are willing to drop the money to get the best - definately go with Falcon NW. Their work is phenomonal and I have heard no complaints. Plus they will give you a custom piaint job of almost anything you want on your laptop. Look around their site at the paint jobs or through google. It's very imptessive.

I am sorry to hear that you had a bad time with Hypersonic (I love my CX-5) and I wish you the best of luck with your new rigs.

Thanks Jester6578. I'm posting with my brand new Sager 8790 and loving it. Hopefully I'll feel the same in a month or two, cheers.
