Anyway to manage dual sound cards?

Ok..First off, it's a Dell Inspiron 8600 with onboard Sigmatel sound. I'm a sound guru, so I bought one of Creative's external sound box things to hook up to my Klipsch 5.1 Ultra's...Only problem is, I want to have sound on the go too...I tried to install the drivers for the Sigmatel chip, and the driver install program says it can't detect the chip, yet the Dell driver CD says it has detected the device, and the Hardware Manager says "Multimedia Hardware Controller". Is there anyway I can set this thing up so when I dock the computer it uses the Sound Blaster, but when it's mobile it uses the onboard speakers and sound card?

Thanks in advance!

I think it should switch back & forth automatically depending on whether the USB cable is plugged in from the external sound box.

Try installing the Sigmatel drivers with the external audio not plugged in.

Let us know how it goes.

I have a USB headset so I guess I could compare it to a USB Sound card. When it's plugged in, the onboard/internal soundcard doesn't work, but when I don't have it plugged in, the onboard/internal soundcard does work.

Hmmm...I downloaded the Sigmatel drivers from support.dell.com and they installed without a hitch. Guess the drivers Dell provided on the driver CD just suck.
