Gateway 7405GX: The new Emachine 6805 - Page 5

I turned my shoulder on Intel quite some time back. They haven't made anything worth what it sells for in a good while.

Anyone know what the battery life is like for it?

Again, does anyone know if this Gateway has fixed the problem eMachines had with cracked hinges?

Anyone?

Warranty!!!

If I buy a Gateway at Best Buy, do I get the same standard Gateway warranty if purchased from Gateway online or over phone? [including 12month tech support?].

[Im looking @ the Sunday paper now for 7405 GX for $1249.99 AFTER instant savings...WOW, no wonder folks are talking].

BTW, Gateway is calling their brite screen "Ultrabrite" [like the old toothpaste, lol].

Usually you see the mail in in stores but not necessarily online. It even has a little yellow tag that says "Save now! No mail in rebates". It may be just the local market I am in.
How in the blue [expletive deleted] did you find the Gateway 7405GX on the website? If you go to the weekly ad on the website, it will tell you "sold in stores only". They don't carry it on the website as of now so I'm just wondering how you were able to access any information on it through the website (I work at Best Buy and all the managers have told me it's not supported on the website, only through Customer Fulfillment or in-store).

Okay, that's cool. Wasn't trying to insult anyone or anything. Just another case of getting the stiff upper lip treatment from management. Wonderful.

Am I going to have to straighten out Best Buy employees here too? Shhesh, I thought I only had to save their customers in the stores

So I went to BB today looking for the 7200 rpm drive (they didnt have it). I have a 6811 with cracked hinges that I got as a trade when my 6809's hinges cracked. I asked the customer service girl what my options were in terms of trading in the cracked 6811 for either a new 6811(I'll check the serial numbers to see if it's the right batch...thanks anaconda!) or for the new 7405GX. Good news is that I can pick which one I want. What do you guys think? I know the 7405 is a bit slower in terms of processor speed, but it does have the faster DVD RW. Additionally I was lucky enought to grab that Oupost 1GB RAM that has my 6811 kicking some butt, but could there be any problems with putting that into the 7405? Has anyone had any difficulties with the outpost RAM upgrade in the 7405? Thanks for the advice everyone!

Thunder_PC....my manager is a real......yea......you know. And he doesn't tell me anything of what's going on at any time. He actually told me the PSP had to be bought right then and there when it's either 14 or 30 days for laptops (it could vary by store because I think for my store, it's 14 days) and he told me it's not on the website too. What a day I've had today as well....it's been a rough week man.

I'd go with the 7405GX in a heartbeat except that I haven't seen the new screen yet.
The faster optical drive would be a BIG + for me.
Otherwise, just send your machine in to emachines and they will give you the new improved hinges.
Your ram should be fine in either but you might want to check that you have the latest bios in your M6811 if you decide to keep it.
I had to upgrade the BIOS in my M6811 in order to get my 1GB samsung to work properly.
You should do the BIOS upgrade AFTER sending it in to emachines of course.

They don't tell you this, BUT! The service plan can be purchased anytime during the 1yr manf warranty. If your PCHO area manager really wants his PSP number up he will approve it. Actually you don't even need to get an approval for that usually. The plus to doing it that way is that the 3 years starts at the purchase date, so you can wait 11months with MANF warranty and then buy the PSP and have 3 more years if you really wanted to.

Really????
Can i try this from a different store than I originally bought the emac from?
How do I make this happen????

I'm shocked Thunder or Colossus haven't provided a link to this yet

Basically just walk to the tech bench with your laptop and receipt and say you wanna buy the service plan.

I just sold one to a lady the other day who bought a laptop 8months ago, and now her ac adaptor went, so instead of her having to pay $80 for a new adaptor I just sold her the service plan and ordered her a new one for free
