Well I got my 8600 yesterday, about a week after I put in the order.
I'm pretty happy with it, I upgraded from an Inspiron 8000 and it's tons faster and the screen is really nice. I went with the wxga +, as I was afraid the 1920 on the top end was going to be too hard to see but the middle range suits me fine, it's almost a little too big, so maybe I should have gotten the top end after all.
I wouldn't call the 1.8 centrino blistering, but it is reasonably fast and a definite speed up from the little p3 850 on my 8000.
The keyboard flex other people noted isn't much of an issue with me, the keyboard feels about the same as on my 8000.
I guess I was lucky, no bad pixels or light leakage.
Only cons for me were the lack of legacy ports and only one pcmcia slot.
Also, maybe it's what I'm running but the 8600 does seem to get hot when I'm running games. Fan stays on constantly.
Other than those two minor things, I'm a happy customer.
