Best Buy Warranty

Do you have to buy the BB extended warranty when you buy the computor or can I still get one now?
I think you have a limited amout of time after your purchase. Of course I can't remember how much time that is. It's something like 10 - 30 days, but I'm not sure.

You may also be able to purchase it later, but I'm not sure. I don't think they will let you purchase it and then use it right away if there was a problem.

I am pretty sure it is 30. I know that is what it was on a mini-dv camera I purchased. I am not positive it is the same time on notebooks though.

when i bought my new m6810 they said i had 30 days, but i bought the warranty right then and there. i know too many people who bought laptops that had problems later on..

When i bought mine, the first person that helped us said we had to buy it right then with the laptop, then the next day when i had to exchange mine, that person said i had 14 days to buy the warranty.

The correct answer to the BB Service Plan question is right then and there. I work at a Best Buy in Computer Sales. Because if you think about it logically, we can have people go home, break the thing and then bring it back and get a Service Plan on it and say 'Okay, I want to use my service plan now'. It's also to make sure that the customer doesn't have to keep coming back. If there's any problem with purchasing right then and there (lack of cash, etc.), we have financing offers on the Best Buy card. Hope this information helps.

The CORRECT answer is 30 days.

From purchase, you have 30 days to buy the extended service plan. (PSP)

I work in the tech services department @ Best Buy ("Geek Squad") and we have people all the time not get the PSP and then come back to get it. As d.electro said, there are plans on the Best Buy credit card. I don't know all the details, as I don't work in in cust service department, but I believe as long as you are making payments on the thing, its even covered for accidental damage. (That also depends on how many months and what interest you are paying)

90 days for the eMachines extended, which also costs a lot less.

GO #232!!! YEAH! YEAH! OH YEAH!!

Yeah, the 80's techy uniforms are a little stupid, but still, you get to boss people like me (computer sales) around all the time, so it is pretty cool.

in the past i have found the warrenty to be most usless, i had a compaq notebook and the power jack fell off mobo ...not covered and an hp 9195 scrren crack not covered.
the hp did have a dab dvd drive( it was actually a cd some how) but that was covered in the 90~1year manufactures warranty, so what would be covered by best buys 300$ warranty.

If you're buying a Toshiba, then buy warranty directly from Toshiba. You'll get more for your dollar and plus you'll be able to get accidential screen coverage -with BB's warranty you won't. Not sure about other brands, but if you get either of the Gateway's (4520/4525-GZ) then you only can get coverage thru BB. Which is straight B.S., but that's "big bidness" for ya!!!

There are also insurance companies available which cover everything, including admitted spills into the keyboard. They typically run about $90-$100/year. Most rates are based on the notebooks value.

Sorry for any misrepresentation. I work at store 599, and the manager in my department said that the PSP has to be bought right then and there, no exceptions. But, yes, upon review of actual corporate policy, the customer has 30 days, after purchase, to buy a PSP. I guess it's just at my store they make the reps tell the customers right then and there because they want the revenue right then and there.

I went back and bought the Best Buy service plan about a week after purchasing my M6805. Once I learned about the cracking hinges and thought about the stress a laptop would endure over 3 years, I figured the peace of mind was worth it.

I asked them to match the Emachines extended warranty price (brought a print out). The cashier told me he couldn't adjust the service plan price, but took the difference out of the laptop price.

I ended up essentially paying the Emachines price for the BB warranty. The downside is that if I ever use the warranty to swap the laptop, I only get the reduced laptop price as a credit.
