3dMark competition!! - Page 3

Yes, your right Sakor1. There's nothing to be gained here. What are the rules as far as the 3dmark settings? Keep them default or can they be tweeked for better performance? What about Display Properties? Can those be tweeked for a higher bench score? If so, would you want to run your games at these settings being that the visual quality gets lowered with each speed adjustment?

Inspiron 700m
CPU: Pentium M 1.60Ghz (Dothan)
Memory: 768mb (Shared)
Hard Drive: 40GB, 5400rpm, 8mb cache
Graphics Card: 64mb Intel EXTREME Graphics 2
3DMark2001: 2429! Are you 9100/XPS owners jealous? If not... then check out my 3DMark03 scores!....Oh yeah. I forget. I can't complete it, since my gpu doesn't support T&L.

Inspiron 9100
CPU: Pentium 4 3.2GHz (Prescott)
Memory: 1GB corsair XMS
Hard Drive: 60GB, 7,200 RPM
Graphics Card: 256MB MR9800
Clock Speeds: 430/375
Drivers: Omega 2.5.76

3dmark03: 8,005
3dmark05: 3,334

and deltaone: If you have the same specs I'm not sure why our scores would be much different... maybe it's the overclocking if you haven't tried that I reinstalled XP when I got the computer and always run the tests after a restart.... I've also created custom profiles to make sure that the minimum number of processes are running while I play games/run benchmarks/etc, but I don't think they make too much of a difference

i made a second partition with Xp on it and turned off everything that does not need to be on and my scores went up considerably

windows is supposed to automatically place itself on the fastest part of the hard drive when installing, so there's no need to create a separate partition... just a note for anyone who was considering doing this *shrugs*
post #49 of 178
what i meant was, I have my regular partition that I use everyday with all my stuff installed. I made another partition and installed XP on it and only installed the neccesary drivers and 3dmark programs and nothing else. I also turned off all services but the bare essentials. so it has nothing to do with placement on the drive. there is just no other programs loaded to steal memory and cpu cycles

man i wish i knew how to overclocke and format my computer this is my first windows and i dont wanna fudge anything up.
don't worry everything will be fine, isn't there an FAQ on the formatting and stuff? if not we should make one

You may do anything you like as far as what drivers you use, changing the driver settings, tweaking and such.... but you do have to leave 3dMark itself on the default testing options, anything else is fair game. The idea is generally to get the highest/ fastest score, which is not necessarily synonomous with best visual quality, most wouldn't play games at these settings.

There is info on doing this (mostly in reference to the excellent Black Viper guide) in both the General and the XPS/ 9100 FAQ's. So never fear

Sorry guys, not ignoring... haven't updated for all the latest as of yet but will dig into that a little later after I have done a few other things, keep them coming in, we still have sections unrepresented!

OK, its updated guys. Still plenty of sections unrepresented for all three cards, take a look in the FAQ. That is pretty much instant entry to the hall of fame if you post for a section not covered yet! Get to it people.

Ok, rerunning the benchmarks and taking screenshots.. will do standard and overclocked values with the clock speeds shown in the screen shots.

Just Ran 3dMark 05 (see image). My system is a iXPS 3.4, 9800 256M running Omega Drivers (stock mem and gpu speeds), 1Gig Cas 3 Ram , 100Gig slow arse drive. The Minor optimizations done that where listed in the FAQ (no reinstall). The score is 2658. I don't have a screenshot but when I received the computer from dell the first thing I did was run this benchmark and the score was 2230. Decent improvement

Updated once more for latest. Keep the scores coming guys, there are still plenty of places to fill, particularly from 128MB MR9700 owners (where are you guys?!). And if you beat a currently listed score remember to post too, and you take the lead on the scoreboard! Good benchmarking.

Cheers,
Stu

Cool, added it. Need to know the driver version you were using for your scores if possible too (eg: Omega 2.5.90).
