Oh one more thing... Who the hell says you have to work hard to be rich? I know lots of people in my area who don't work hard, but at the same time are "rich" infact one family I know is on a 1 month vacation to some place in mexico. They are watched by the FBI, and the guys brother is in Federal Prison... But... Thats a whole new topic.

I don't even *have* a car! Don't really need one, though it would be more convenient. I take the bus to school!

back to computers in schools

computers in the classrooms are a great idea
the main reason it helps, with the use of special programs, those with learning disabilities learn how to write and it gives them confidence to write because thier work looks professional. Before those who were learning disabled usually failed in writng because they could not understand the rules of grammar. The computer helps them understand the rules, thus giving them confidence to write. also computers, when used properly by a teacher, reinforce the lessons being taught and offers the information in a new and attractive way to the students. So students are intrigued by the way the information is presented to them so they pay attention and learn. But computers have to used correctly the teachers have to understand how it relates to the curriculum and the teacher's teaching style.

Sorry guys i just did my thesis on this very topic.

That's a good point.

I think the idea behind the original post is that yes, some people would definatly benefit from the use of a laptop at college, but a blanket statement that everyone needs a laptop is perposterous.

i am not saying everyone needs a laptop
teachers just need to know how important computers are in getting kids to learn the same material in a different way that peeks their interest
for example a teacher prepares their notes for a poetry unit in Powerpoint
the students will be attracted to it rather than staring at the teacher at the front of the class writing on the chalk board
all the students do not need a laptop for that
