something on this just doesn't feel right.........
Why that ?
Western Union
ah We're not used to that here but good to know
post #6 of 26
I thought the Presario 2500 had onboard Radeon 7000 video, if that's the case, how come it has 256mb ?

Also, no details on speed of cpu, or screen size.
the things made me think somehing is just not right are......western union is a general no-go zone when it comes to laptop purchases online, be it on ebay or on forum boards since it is used by many scammers.... A 256mb graphics board in a compaq 2500, as far as i know the use of 256mb boards is generally limited and compaq never had one... the overall lack on details on the processor speed, graphics card, and screen....as well as the fact that your only post on this forum is the one selling the laptop....

Now i can't say that there is something wrong here for sure....but without the full info and a more secure payment option.... i will remain skeptical on this....

Sorry, if you'll think I'm scamming you or something. That is not the case. Like I said it was upgraded, and if you think I am scamming you then you dont need to buy it, it really is not a big deal. And yes, this is my only post because I specifically posted on this website to see if anyone wanted to buy it. And around here western union is safe. Sorry again, this was not ment to be a scam, but if you feel it is, then don't worry about wanting to buy it. Thank you for you time guys, I am not that knowledgable when it comes to computers, I am actually posting it for my grandfather, my cousin told me what to put down.

CPU Speed is 2.0
And the screen is 15 inch

Presario 2500
Intel Pentium 4 Processor
60GB - Upgraded (what speed is the HD?)
1 GIG RAM - Upgraded (What brand/Speed is the memory?)
Floppy Disk Drive - Upgraded (How did you upgrade a floppy?)
CD-RW/DVD-ROM (Again what speed is the CD-RW and DVD?)
Wirelessly Integrated (Is it Intell 2100/2200? Wireless B/G ?)3 USB Ports (Is it USB 2.0? Or 1.1?)

One more question.. how long have you (or your grandfather) had the laptop? When was it purchased?
I have to agree with fidget and phantom... it sounds fishy.
presario 2500.. i couldn't find the spec on the model on their site .. this makes one wonder if this is more than 6 months old.

how much is rocky asking for the laptop deal?
where's rocky located so if local forum members can preview before buying...

just basic questions one has to ask....
Why wouldn't you accept escrow or something if you want checks for example that would be safe for both sides - I call scam as well...

I have a couple of questions. When was this laptop bought? And can you verify which video card and how much video ram the laptop has?
If you buy this do not send Western Union, thats like paying in cash. At least with a check you have some proof. Even still this is very very fishy. If he is based outside the US its almost guaranteed to be a scam.
And why would it be a scam if he's based outside the us ? I'm selling my lappy and I'm based outside the US.

This laptop is kinda Old

This laptop only has a pentium 4 2.0, There is I repeat no possiable way for this thing to have a 256mb video card, I do not care what ati card it is, there is no 256mb video card. this laptop org came with a 40gb hd, and the memory is pc266.

Is this a scam I do not know but This item is badly represented. This computer should go for about 650.00, and Do not send the money western union.
Fully agree with you, there is no way that this lappy has a 256MB card in it.

But....please remember that we're all enthousiast and we not what we're talking about, some people don't and they start to mix up things, so maybe we could give him a chance to send us the specs if this machine.

We need the exact model number, and the model number of the parts that have been replaced/upgraded.

What I've seen recently with a customer was that he blamed HP because his lappy couldn't run games, even though he had a 128MB card in it.
The detail he never noticed was that the vendor simply specified in the bios to assign 128MB shared memory to the card, in his eyes that was a 3D 128MB card, for us this is TOTALY different.
$650.00 sounds pretty close to what it should go for. If you're lucky, you can probably tack on another $100.00
post #19 of 26
I go by post count, mainly. Paypal preferred and definitely stay away from Western Union.
Based outside the US is not an indication of a shaky deal in and of itself, however when combined with other factors it's something to consider.

You bought your Grandpa a laptop with 1GB RAM ?

And yes Western Union is like paying cash, checks aren't a great idea either, I wouldn't buy this unless I picked it up locally, or did escrow.
