Injured the most beautiful screen in the world!

I am SOOO sorry, my dear 4750! i did not mean you any harm. The last thing that I wanted to do in the world was taint your beauty! Please forgive me.

Sigh, it seems that sometime in the transport of my laptop from Blacksburg VA to Lynchburg VA, I have ground a small object into the screen which has no competition. I am guessing that a small partical somehow adhered itself to the screen about 2 inches 10 o'clock from the center of my screen and when I closed my laptop and put it into my bag, the pressure drove the object into the plastic outer 'skin' of the screen, creating a small black mark about 6 pixels long and 2 high in the screen. The liquid crystal part was not damaged though (no leakage, dead pixels) so I consider myself lucky. I have succeeded in diggin out the object so now I have a small grey mark on my screen. But I am still not happy at all In fact, I am extremely sad to have desecrated such a beautiful object. Such an injury is not covered under warranty though as it was damage not due to manufacturer defect. I guess all I can do is pray for 5 or 6 dead pixels so I could get the screen replaced. Gee, never thought I would actually say that!!

Does anyone know of any possible method for repairing something like this. I suppose I could smooth out the wound (being EXTREMELY careful!) and apply some sort of clear adhesive, I suppose which might disguise the scratch. GRRRR. I am so sad!

Yeah, so sympathy and advice are welcome.
Thanks.

Oh geeze man! That made me increadibly sad. Putting myself in your shoes I dont think i could have typed that well through all the tears. =/
Perhaps hit up nushield and ask for donations to help replace, for referals this post will draw- i know i'm definatly getting a nushield protector now

WBECK,
I'll buy it from you for $500.00US. My 9 year old son would love to have it. I'm sure in a week he'd put on 50 or more dents and scratches on that screen.

What do you say?

well, thanks for the offer, dpawn, but I think i'm gonna keep it.
It is a small wound. Not really noticible, except when viewing somethign with a white background (hahaha, yeah, that's like, what? 90% of the time?) But, it would be nice to just repair it, if possible. I dont realyl wanna be w/o a computer again, for any period of time.

oh, and I just beat Doom3 for the first time. Jeeze, what a game. Horrifying. Terrifying. yet, at the same time, I can think of better games. I am not much of a horror kind of guy. I like ut2k4. No shadows, just outright killing. Much nicer..... But yeah, that last cutscene was kinda dumb. All that fighting through levels and levels of blood and gore and then at the end, the badguy goes down w/his leg chopped off in a 5 second cutscene?? ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......

Anyway, yeah, scratched LCDs.......

You might be able to buff it out with a polishing compound. If you are in high school or college, go ask a chemistry or physics teacher/professor. My high school physics teacher once let me borrow some polishing compound when I needed to polish a piece on a model I was working on. It was a redish-tan powder, but I can't remember what it was...

don't attempt to polish it with polishing compound, you'll make it worse.

Why not call the people you bought it from and ask for suggestions. If it's PCT or DL they will probably give you advice after suggesting replacement. But hey, it's worth a try.

Ogre sad

yah i wouldn't suggest trying to polish it, i think it's too delicate to risk

If you are in Lynchburg, might I suggest a visit to the Jack Daniels Distillery company, it might ease the pain, sorry to hear about the screen.

Well, sager said, and I quote: "The scratch on the screen can't be fix."

That is too bad. After having this scratch for about 3 days now, I do find it very hard to see, without searching for it, which is good. I guess it's not really a big deal, really. It is just kinda dissapointing to know that my screen isn't PERFECT anymore

But what lessons have we all learned through this experience?? GET A NUSHEILD AND MAKE SURE YOUR SCREEN AND KEYBOARD ARE FREE FROM DEBRIS WHEN YOU CLOSE IT!!!

Yeah, it was a small object, I think, of some sort. It scratched my screen. Just a little scratch. very small, actually. It looked like something a sharp piece of sand could do. Which is probably what it was. The damage is very slight. Yet, I think that any damage, no matter how slight, is still very unfortunate when it is on a very nice, expensive display like the one on my 4750.
