ACER TravelMate 8006LMi or Aspire 2026WLMi???

I was just about to order an ACER TravelMate 8006MLi when I saw the spec of the ACER Aspire 2026WLMi.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is in terms of performance......apart from the obvious 15.4" widescreen format on the 2026WLMi.

The TravelMate looks a little sad and grey on the asthetics side of things compared to the Aspire and I've also been a little anxious about the slighlty negative reviews I read on the 8006LMi screen.

Has anyone out there seen them both side-by-side to compare the screen/graphics performance??

if I am not mistaken, you can listen audio CD's on the 2026 without turning the machine on.

the 2026's screen has better viewing angles, but it's a widescreen so if you make websites or play games the 16:9 aspect and it's resolution could be a problem. and if i am not mistaken (again ) the max. resolution on the 2026 is rather small.

Uriel,

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm certainly not bothered about the facility to play audio CD's but I am worried about the screen resolution and quality.

I read in your review on the 8006LMi and you stated that you found the viewing angles on the screen not to be very good. I'll be using the notebook to watch DVD's amongst a host of other things, albeit on my own during my travels (so it's not a case of two or more people trying to get directly in front of the screen).

How does the 8006LMi screen compare to your Dad's dell for instance. or any other notebooks which you have owned in the past??

I have heard that the widescreens have generally better viewing angles. Since I don't have one I could compare, I can only state second hand experience.

well my dad's Dell is a widescreen, so it has better view angles.

maybe you should go to a shop with and checkout the DVD playback in the 8000 series. that would solve your problem. if your into watching DVD's the widescreen could be a better choice, because of its aspect ratio that fits DVD playback, BUT there is still the problem of low resolution. if you can go past that I think the 2026 would be your choice. Still if you can, go to a shop that sells them and ask to see the screens while playing a DVD.

screen resolution is a question of personal preference so I would advise you to go to a pc store and have a look at both. The TM8006 will give you 30-40min or so more battery life and will be slightly lighter but chances they will both feel the same when you carry them around.
If wxga is good for you, I find it very nice, the Aspire 2026 is the better laptop, IMO.

I certainly like the widescreen format but battery life is probably more important to me as I'm on the move a lot of the time.

Thanks very much for the info.
