it's easy to upgrade the memory, you want PC3200 200pin DDR SO-DIMM's. There is a door on the underside of the laptop that houses the memory (2 so-dimms)

You must use dual channel memory. In other words, if you are going from 512 (2x256) to 1 GB (2x512) you MUST use two sticks of identical 512MB RAM as opposed to just 1 stick 1 GB RAM.

Just to clarify this - you CAN run mismatched memory or single sticks if you want (I accidentally had mine running with one of the SO-DIMMs not seated for a few days once - it worked but...) However, if you do this you don't get the benefit of dual ported RAM, so it WILL be slower than running matched SO-DIMM modules.

Short answer is, you CAN run them not matched... but why would you want to?

It was my understanding the system will not start at all if only on one stick of RAM. Can anyone confirm this?

the system should work fine using just one stick... i used one stick while exchanging one bad stick i got when i ordered my pair of corsair xms... it won't have dual channel though.

Yeah, as said I had both of mine in but one wasn't seated properly for a few days. So Windows was only seeing 512 MB instead of a gig. It worked, but the performance dropped off enough that I was actually considering going to 2 GB Good thing I looked at the reported RAM number first.
