Sometimes my sony 8x DVD rw does not open

Ive had to reboot and even removed the drive to reseat it but it still happens any ideas? Anyone else w/this problem? Also, is there a program out there that will let me copy DVD movies? and where can i find out the differences between R+,R-.

check some other threads about this same problem. It's the Sonic DLA that's locking up your drive. Also, for "backing up" your DVD movies, check out DVDShrink. No real difference between +R, and -R except for personal preference, and compatibility. Some DVD players will not play -R, and some won't play -R. I think +R is more widely recognized.
