The Extigy is much better as an overall sound card. The Echo is just for output and nothing else.

seriously

all the goodies the extigy has for 20 bucks more is WAY worth it

Can the Echo Indigo do 5.1 surround sound?

thanks, i'll probably go with the extigy because i do a lot of recording

just as a warning ... I bought the extigy and had it plugged in through the usb port and was having a number of crashes during gameplay and dvd play. After testing everything possible and installing every graphics driver known to man and reinstalling xp about 10 times, i somehow (can't remember what brought me to it) disconnected the extigy from the usb port and low-and-behold, the system was rock solid. So i connected the extigy to the s/pdif port through an old rca-s/pdif cable i had and it works beautifully. Hope this helps your situation.

It all depends on what you plan on using it for... For listening to music and DVD's the echo indigo is amazing but it doesn't have all the features of the extigy (which only has decent reviews btw)

dude if you are doing recording....RME hammerfall is the way to go. but for pure sound output purposes, there is nothing cleaner than an indigo in that price range.

Yeah, I'm using an RME Hammerfall DSP (with the Multiface & Digiface breakout boxes) on my laptop's Cardbus slot for 24/96 multi-track live recordings as well as tracking studio sessions - it's a bit specialized but offers really pristine quality and flexibility at such a relatively affordable price point...I've also been able to successfully archive a number of remote projects where AC wasn't readily available, since the Multiface can be powered off a 12V SLA battery or from an auto cigarette lighter socket, and the laptop obviously from its own batteries...

that right there is the beauty of technology, to me at least. truly mobile recording fully realized. not some half-assed product that delivers scaled down quality.

and those new ehcoes look very nice. thanks for the info jah.
