$750 off $1500?? Is Dell really THAT desperate? - Page 6

I'll probably be keeping it anyway. I'll put it to some use.

I just wonder what Dell has planned since they seem to be in a mad rush to clear inventory. Or perhaps they're trying to meet some revenue forecasts.

I already have a 700M, so I don't need another one, but I was thinking of buying either a 8600 or a 700M, and then selling them on eBay. So at Dell, It would cost me about $870 for either ($70 for shipping), but looking at eBay, the prices are pretty low, almost around the $900 range.

700M http://search.ebay.com/700M_PC-Lapto...trypageZsearch

8600

So would you guys recommend it?

As Xarthan mentioned, I think we're going to see a flood of these Dells on eBay, so unless you're willing to accept a small margin ($100-$200) it might not be worth the trouble to purchase solely for the purpose of turning a profit. Unless you buy and sell a whole lot of them. That's my guess anyway.

THis is an ok deal, The price u see on dell's site already has like 250 dollar off, but they dont tell u. So at check out when u use the 750 off coupon, u only get 500 bux off. Dell sux
post #106 of 142
And dell customer support sux, i can't get hold of a rep for like 2 hours.

If you are buying it and reselling it you are violating your terms of agreement from dell. You should read up what they do to ppl who do that but who cares?
looks like the coupon is OFF for the 700M still works with others
post #109 of 142
its off for 9100, 8600, and 700m

I have a feeling they are going to start cancelling orders left and right.....anyone else noticed that their total in their final order confirmation or in their order status doesn't add up correctly....notice how dell add's in that they reserve the right to cancel orders where there are price errors, they actually bundled that warning with the coupon.....I'm going to be so freaking pissed if Dell starts screwing people over.

That sucks, think they will do another one soon or should I try a 600m? What are the negatives with the 600?
Anyone else notice that they are moving around the order of the laptops on the site? Anyone notice that the 9100 is no longer in the lineup....hopefully they put it back up.

It's amazing how people love Dell yet say if the company cancels an order, they are the worst company around.

If you buy a pc from Dell during a flurry of orders such as today in which the product you buy is built to your spec's, your order might be delayed a month or more. Dell could decide it's too long to wait and also backlogs all further orders so everyone is screwed because a lot of people decided to buy a pc on the same day. It's a business decision and a wise one.

Here is where it gets interesting. You could contact Dell and say "even if my pc is going to be delayed for a long time, I still want it." Then if they eventually cancel it, call and tell them you wanted it and ask for some sort of cash break on your re-order. Be nice about it. It's one thing to sell 1,000 widgets but it's another thing to sell 1,000 custom widgets.

I wouldn't give a hoot if my order was delyed because of the frenzy...I expect that. But I also expect for a company to not run a promo for only 12 out of the 24 hours it was supposed to be up and then start cancelling orders. That's BAD business. They should have forseen the massive amount of orders, and either decided to make the time span even smaller or not have the promotion at all. Promoting something and then backing out is not WISE business it's BAD business. I have never said that I love dell or that I hate dell. Dell is dell, it's a tool that I use to get certain products, nothing more nothing less.

If I'm not in desperate need of a laptop and can wait a few months, might another deal just as good or better most likely come along (before Christmas)?
I was going to order an 8600 up until they took the deal away on it.

I agree that it's better stop selling a product due to demand, than to cancel an order.

I'm surprised they've had to scale back that much. I can't imagine that many people making a sudden purchase of around a grand, for a new computer.

"Dell is dell, it's a tool that I use to get certain products, nothing more nothing less"

I appreciate you saying that. I've been reading a lot of posts with the "love/hate" sentiment and that carried over into my post. It wasn't aimed at you.
