Hi. Thank you for the command. Since when the boot CD loads the update program starts automatically, what must I do to run the command manually? Could you please guide me step by step?

Thank you.

Hi again.

Here's what I did so far.

The original line in the FW.PRO file for my hard disk is:
; HTS541040G9AT00 40.0GB
"HTS541040G9AT00","MB2IA5BJ","MB2IA60A","MB2IA60A.bdr","hfui14.exe","IA60A","/u mpbA60Ab.tbl","FWHD3414"

I have changed it to:
; HTS541040G9AT00 40.0GB
"HTS541040G9AT00","MB2IA5BJ","MB2IA60A","MB2IA60A.bdr","hfui14.exe OA60A -pm MB2IA60A.bdr /u mpbA60Ab.tbl","FWHD3414"

Would this be exactly correct?

Next, I edited the MPBA60AB.tbl file by copying the RAM Checksum for IBM model to OEM generic model (immediately below). But there is also another OEM generic model figures below Dell model, Gateway model and Compaq model. Should I also change those figures?

If the steps above are wrong, please advice. If its correct, how do I proceed? Do I just burn it on a bootable CD and run the program after start up? Or do I open MS-DOS in Windows and run FW.exe manually or something? Btw, my OS is Windows XP Home edition.

Please help. Thank you.

Hey suddste23 and gen. Did you guys try out Centrino Hardware Control program? Gen I also have a hitachi 5k100 and in an earlier post (within this thread) I mentioned how I fixed my clicking noise through that program.
I decided to go with what I did earlier and burned it on a CD. Then upon reboot, went into command prompt and typed in the code: hfui14.exe ...
It came out with an error that reads - ERROR: Invalid Parameter Table Format! Check Parameter Table Format.

I am not sure but I figured it must be referring to the MPBA60AB.tbl file. If it does, I still don't know what I did wrong.

In that file, there are two places with this written: A56J -> A60A ROM. Must I change the numbers to something else?

As for the RAM checksum part, I just copied all the figures under IBM model to OEM generic model (immediately below). There is also another OEM generic model figures that come after Dell, Gateway and Compaq models but I did not do any changes to that.

So, is there something that I could have missed out? Please help.

Malicious9, ya I read your post but no I didn't try out Centrino prog. Coz I have Intel Application Accelerator installed and it does the same thing adjusting acoustic and APM levels. But it didn't do any good.

Nope, I had Notebook Hardware Control and it never worked.

Setting the acoustic level for other than 5K100 drives haven't given any mentionable improvement (in my experience).

Just burn the ISO on a CD, then boot up, the program loads and says you don't need to update. Press ESC and then CTRL+C and Y to confirm. Now you should be at command prompt and this is the place where you enter the command:
hfui14.exe OA60A MB2IA60A.BDR /F mpbA60Ab.tbl

If that doesn't change your firmware, you have to fiddle (most likely) with the .TBL file and the checksums in it.

As you said you have MB20A60A and the new is too A60A, then maybe it won't let you. Like I wanted to update A5HA > A5HA.

Did anyone with a Hitachi Travelstar 5K100 hts541080G9SA00 get completely rid of the clicking?
I bought an acer 5672WLMi two weeks ago, and this clicking drives me nuts at night.
Does anybody know the right steps to follow the get rid of this nuisance?
For the 5K100, try Hitachi Feature Tool or Notebook Hardware Control for changing the acoustic level. Both do the same thing.
Ok this solved it! It's much more quiet now! But at what cost? Will my pc be slower now?
Seek time mostly. But nothing really mentionable.
Or you can test your HDD with HdTach before and after the change.
mmm... and when will I feel this seek time? when opening applications, saving data, starting up windows?
I have the slider from the acoustic manag... a little to the left from the middle, so not on completely damped.
You won't feel it most likely. I'd recommend the quietest option
post #74 of 94
hehe... strange... you might wander why they don't make it that quiet as a standard, ... if there's no difference in user experience...

dio6, good to know you got yours fixed. I had the same problem with 5K100 and tried all sorts of things. Even tried to update the firmware but got stuck halfway. And the PC kept rebooting by itself. So I finally decided to change the HDD and got myself a Samsung MP0402H. I am keeping a close eye on it and so far so good.. extremely silent and no irritating clicking noise.
Well, it's actually still clicking a bit, but much softer and not so irritating. I think to only way too make it really silent is to kill all processes. It's that f***in windows that keeps accessing the disk every second.
I also noticed that this becomes better when the laptop is on for a few hours... ( or maybe that's just me imagining things) ...

Anyway it's much better now, allthough my girlfriends laptop still doesn't make a single sound (i think there's an seagate in it).

Guess I 'll have to live with this, or indeed get another brand of HDD.

I really don't understand those Hitachi-guys never came across this issue themselves. They must be deaf or something...

My HDD:

Model: HTS548080M9AT00
Firmware revision: MG4OA53A

Excute the commands:
1) hfui12L.exe OA5HA -pm MG4IA5HA.bin /F MRLA5HA.tbl
2) hfui12L.exe IA5HA -pm MG4IA5HA.bin /F MRLA5HA.tbl

Has displayed:
"Unmatch original firmware level
Must be update ROM firmware"

Help me, please!

===

I did not edit the files! (MRLA5HA.tbl and FW.PRO)

What should I write in section "Checksum Table" for my HDD?
Edit MRLA5HA.TBL, change A55A to A53A and remove all checksums but 9AAA3CF1.

Then run HFUI12L.EXE OA5HA -pm MG4IA5HA.BIN /U MRLA5HA.TBL
and you're done.
My hitachi drive only clicks when reading/writing, never has any other time. Guess I'm fortunate

9AAA3CF1 - is it 100% for HTS548080M9AT00?
