Hitachi 5k80 Intermittent Clicking Noises - Page 5

whodiini said he had 9AAA3CF1H, I had 9AAA3CF1.
If the program finds wrong checksum, it doesn't update. So everything should be ok even with wrong checksum.

What about hardware control for Turion?

But actually I do have some good news (not geico-related) and I hope this doesn't jinx anything but per the advice of a friend I loaded up centrino Notebook Hardware Control http://www.freewr.com/freeware.php?d...ntrol&lid=1655

and went to the harddrive portion of it and changed my acoustic management to "quiet" and advanced power management to max performance.

anyways for the 5 minutes I've been up and running I haven't heard the annoying and noticable "rapid mouse-click" sound. instead now it's a rather inaudible (and keep in mind that the room i'm in is deathly quiet -- which is why the old click was so annoying) click that sounds more like the normal noise that happens when files are being moved and I have to really pay attention to it.

Well I hope this keeps up and cross your fingers for me if you can

thanks for the help you've provided 732 and hitachi you better lock your doors late at night
Is there similar utility for AMD products (Turion in my case)? I also have Hitachi 80 GB 5400 RPM (HTS541080G9AT00) and if I will not solution to the clicking the laptop is going back. Pronto!

Hi,

I also have these clicking problems with my hitachi hard drive of my notebook.
The clicking does not stop. When the hard drive is idle , it clicks every 2 secons at least! Sometimes it's a bit better, and it doesn't click for 10 seconds. But it is very annoying ! If you are in a silent room, click...click...click...

Mine is:
Hitachi Travelstar 5k100, 2,5" , 100 GB
HTS541010G9SA00
5400 RPM

I tried the hitachi feature tool, I changed APM to the maximum, it's a little better but not much. And the the problem is my harddrive (of the firmware i guess?) doesn't support to change the acoustic level

I tried also notebook hardware control but obviously i can't the change the acoustic level there either

Does someone have an idea ?
Plz help, thank you

Hello,

For Mac users out there who happen to have a 5k80 that is clicking (almost sounds like a water droplet hitting a pond) but obviously can't use the Hitatchi utilities, try APM Tuner X:

http://140.117.11.7/Mac/util/APM_Tuner_X_1.0a2.dmg.sit
http://homepage.mac.com/karstenliere...er_X_1.0a2.sit

Do a google search for background info, but basically this utility is not being updated anymore so use at your own risk, BUT, I used it today on my Powerbook G4 (in which I just installed this new 80gb hitatchi) and it immediately solved the clicking. Thank god. All you need to do is run the program and set the slider all the way to the right.

Also, the setting will reset to the default every time the Mac is rebooted, but there is an applescript available on macosxhints.com to overcome this!

Cheers,

- Matt

Hello hardware killers!

I buy fresh HTS721060G9AT00 60GB 7200 harddrive pulled out from Dell. I want mount this disk in my black coffin Think Pad T43 (2669).

Symptoms:
Famous err 2010 disk incompatible

Information:
Disk is on IBM's wall of fame compatibility stuff, but...
Firmware version show by XP and FW is MC3OA53A - OEM!!!
Firmware version show by HFUI15 is MC3DA53A - DELL!!!
who lie???

Probably compatible firmware and table file in fwhd54.iso:
MC3IA5DA.BDR
MC3IA5DA.BIN
MPCA5DAB.TBL

Problems:
I try hack FW, table file, but no success, still show no firmware update.
I try a lot of combinations for stand alone flashing aplication... HFUI, command lines show on this forum and others... still nothing, HFUI say this disk is not supported! flashing process never start!

Who know how hardflash this disk? and kickout A53A firmware? Who can show proper set of parameters and tbl file modifications for this disk...

I spend a lot of hours... and now i'm resigned

I recommend that you look into the IBM site and see if there is a bios update.

All system and controller firmwares are fresh updated in august '08. No newer versions on IBM website.

I renew my question... How reflash disk firmware from Dell to IBM or change company signature from D to I?

Thanks for any information.
