Cubase SX 3 64 bit

anyone tried Cubase SX3 on even just the beta version of Windows XP 64bit, at least using software sybths and samplers. How is it if you have?

Have you heard anything regarding the porting of drivers to 64 bit, like for the MOTU devices for example?

does no one have SX3 yet?

it seems m-audio are the only ones with 64 bit drivers for their interface, hopefully motu will have them before the middle of next year.

In order to use 64 bit processing, you need the program (SX3) the drivers, the OS, and the processor chip all be 64 bit aware. It's still too early in the game to tell. I don't use MAudio soundcards so the wait will be much longer for me, because my studio is MLan based.

Hmm, I don't think you need to have every component of the system 64bit-aware. Cubase SX as a standalone application will definitely perform better on a 64bit-CPU (name it Athlon64). 64bit drivers are not needed, neither is a 64bit Windows kernel. The Windows version may have some influence to the user interface rendering, but the audio performance isn't touched at all.
Regarding the performance of VST instruments and fx plugins, special versions are definitely needed (not for making them work with Cubase SX when running in 64bit mode, but for getting a remarkable performance boost).

I own SX3, but unfortunately no 64bit-capable machine ...
Hopefully next month this will change
I'll tell ya if it makes a difference.

I'm pretty sure you will find informations about this at the Steinberg forum http://forum.cubase.net

Cool, tell me about those results, and m-audio it seems released some 64 bit effects for PC and MAC:

They seem to be the only ones who give a damn about 64 bit currently, as they also have 64 bit drivers for their firewire audio interfaces.

willydee, I would have to disagree with you, as does Ron Kuper from Cakewalk. See his white paper here:

So yes, all parts of a 64 bit system has to be coded for 64 bit operation to be a "true" 64 bit system. You can't mix and match.

And illd, I can't wait for a 64 bit box, but really since I don't have the drivers, or any of my plug in's recoded to 64 bit, or my main sequencer recoded to 64 bit, or even my OS recoded to 64 bit, I'm not going to worry about it until it is ALL done. Right now I'm going to concentrate on making music.

Yes all parts of a 64 bit system would need to be 64 bit to get a true 64 bit system, that being said though it will run fine in 32 bit, and even if certain parts... say the OS and Chip are 64 bit, it will make a difference at a level that is deeper than the software and will start to show a difference there, though the software being compiled for 64 bit also helps entierly, and the the drivers I would consider good as well, but not nessecary if you arent using that peice of equipment.
