Are all the 8790 the same ??

"newbie" questions, sorry:

1. Am I wrong or sager don't produce their laptops, they purchase the backbone from Eurocom ?

2. EUROCOM (or whatever is the factory of these laptops) sells to many different places in the world, right ?

3. If so, is it possible (or reasonable to believe) that the BIOS for all these laptops are the same ?

I am asking because I purchased a 8790 from the Russian dealer (called Roverbook) but they don't have the BIOS upgrade yet and I am wondering if my BIOS is the same as the bios from sager and if it would be safe to upgrade my BIOS using SAGER upgrade disk.

thanks for some light in these questions.

I purchased an ITC Millennia 7201 here in Australia which is exactly the same as the 8790. I applied the BIOS and all is fine.

Cheers,

Kumaiti - The machines are really made by CLEVO. The 8790 is the same as the D870P.

Thanks.

I guess it is safe to apply the BIOS update then, right ?

Did it. in the starting screen it shows the BIOS updated BIOS version.

Installed video card drivers from sager webpage also.

However, when I press fn+F10 nothing happens.

I had same problem in mine (4750) and i fixed it turning off the cd-player in the volume control... i tried the same in a 870p of one of my friends and it fixed also the problem.

Regards.

If all these laptops are built by CLEVO, why not just buy a CLEVO? or am I missing something?

CLEVO does not normally sell direct (not their core compatency). It uses OEMs such as Sager and the like. The Sager uses resellers like PC Torque.

The BIOS update did not do much for me, either. Fn+F10 would ramp the fans up to high, but that's it. Wouldn't ramp them back down. Not really sure what to tell you about it. Ya ne znayu.

ramp is a funny word

This fn+F10 thing is a little bit crazy.... Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but I don't notice too much difference in the fans.

Maybe this stupid dealer here in russia messed something in the BIOS or something like that.
