Upgrade CDRW to DVD/CDRW unit?

My brother has a dell laptop that only came with the CDRW unit and I was thinking of upgrading it for him to a DVD/CDRW unit for Christmas. The bay is dockable. Do the dockable bays all use the same connector? Do I need to crack open the docking case to replace the mechanism inside? And besides going through Dell, is there somewhere I can find an upgrade?

I do not have the unit number, yet. Am hoping to get it in the next day or so when he's not paying any attention. The unit's about two years old, as I tend to remember.

Thanks

eBay is my personal source, though I'm sure someone else will post links to some stores.

No need to crack anything open. Just pop out the old drive and pop in the new one.

Thanks. I'll look there. Just thought there might be a less questionable way of doing it - with warranty and the such.

Santora if you get one ask for 2 manuals the dumb jerks didn't even send me a paper manual on Inspiron 8600 or the CDR/RW-DVD+R/RW drive it came with. Dell AKA Hell is what your in for when call on their toll free SPAM filled while you wait 30 minutes for free help, unless your transfered over to "If you would like to make a call hang up and try again" line they use all *too* frequently!
