Today's Deal - What did you end up buying? - Page 2

Dell 8600.
1.5ghz. 40 gigs. 512 ram. 128 Pro. DVD/CD-RW. Extra Battery. 1350 Wireless. 989 (with tax). About 940 after S&H rebate. I also get another 3% from fatwallet maybe and 2% back instantly by having good credit with the preferred account.

Not too shabby. My other laptop with -25% + 200 and was 1050 after rebate.

I'm kind of pissed that nobody here mentioned the big bucks coupon, cause I could've saved 30 bucks extra from what I hear. I'm only a poor college student and can use the dough.

I'm really very happy with my purchase. Top of the line laptop. Can last 2-3 years for games. 2 Batteries means I can use it for over 3 years portably. Dell really has the best deals. I was gonna get an HP before and that was with 10% off+no tax+100 rebate.

I don't know how HP can even compete versus Dell's low-cost strategy.

How do you figure?

$1,736 - $750 = $986 (with Dell's math it's $972).

$972 + $49 shipping + $63.83 tax = $1,084,83 - $49 rebate = $1,035.83

Yes, if I had gotten the base model it would have ended up around $850 or so NET.

The DVD+R = +$179, the battery = +$53, and the wireless = +$26...

Also, I don't see where you get "you didn't even get the faster HDD." There is no "faster" HDD option with the 700m. There are reports of *some* people getting 5400RPM drives as the 40GB, but that is not a guarantee. Also, why would I spend money getting a faster HDD from Dell, when as I reported above, I plan to swap in a 7200RPM drive?

didn't know the dvd+r was such a costly option, that sucks they charge that much for that. total just seemed high to me because i confirgured a 700m with 40gig, cdrw/dvd/ intel 2200, and it was only $920 shipped. but i also didn't have tax, so that adds a lot on the total. As for the harddrive, seems like almost everyone who got a 40gig got a 5400rpm and 30gig came as 4200rpm. but like you said, you're planning on upgrading anyway. sorry bout the confusion.

bah i rather get an external dvd burner than get a notebook dvd-/+rw.. i know the external one isn't made for portability, but i dont have much use for burning dvds on-the-go.

oh and geojelly: i bought the 600m 2 weeks ago as well and i think that one has a samsung flatscreen.

I did get a concession last night though. I was laying it on thick and she caved to an "after Christmas" position. Let's hope they are running some kind of deal like this after the holidays. I saw someone in here who picked up a loaded XPS for about $1,500.00. First deal like that after the holidays and I won't even ask, I'm grabbing it.

I went with the 64MB because the 128MB vs. 64MB probably won't make too much difference in any newer games that the 9700 has trouble with. The 64MB card should play most games fine, except the very latest and upcoming titles. I decided to save the cash for the 9800 upgrade.

Also I think the 9800 upgrade option yesterday was $359 more than the 64MB 9700. From what I've read here, it sounds like you can get the 9800 from Dell spare parts for less than that if you install it yourself and get them to refund the install fee. I'm hoping I might find a coupon for accessories or spare parts to get it a bit cheaper too.

I ordered my very first laptop in all of the choas yestarday. I had originally ordered with the 30% off and then canceled when the $750 coupon came about. My only concern is that the invoice I recieved has a $14 mathmatical error in it and I see that Dell can cancel an order do to pricing error in their invoices. Has anyone had there order cancelled because of such a thing? I really need this laptop as soon as it can get here and can't afford to wait and have it canceled to have to order another one. Also do you all think I should of upgraded the video card more, I am primarily using this for basic applications no graphic heavy programs?

Future hopes?

Hello all, this is my first post. i'm one of those who missed out. i priced out a few models (8600, 5160, 600m) but then had to go to the hospital (my wife is pregnant). after a few tests turned out to be a false alarm. when i got back at 11pm, all the deals were gone! called dell today but they were unwilling to help.

we really needed the computer, and i have never seen such an incredible deal (am new to the world of deals and bargains). my question to any and all is: will there ever be a deal like this again, and should i wait. or should i buy for 1200 what i could have gotten for 900?
