CS:S video problem

I just preloaded HL2 and purchased it over Steam so that I can start playing CS right away. The stress test ran super smooth with an average of 60fps which I thought was totally boss.

So I joined a server, but I got this weird problem. At first I thought I had a gun with a laser pointer on it or something that was screwed up, but it happened with all guns, and even when I had no gun. It almost seems as if there's an entension from my POV that's always pointing towards the center of the map. So it changes depending on which way I'm looking, but again it seems fixed to the center of the map. It only happens in first person mode. I took some screen captures, but the problem wasn't present in them after I exited so it's no good posting them.

I was running the latest Omega's (but still had the choppy video playback) so I reverted back to the 4.5's and I still have the problem. Anyone else have something similar? I had no problems running Sims 2 or the COD expansion most recently.

No responses, but I do have a screencap if that'll help. So has anyone seen anything like this before?

Yes, I've seen it before in Battlefield 1942. Haven't figured out exactly what causes it.

Possible suspects:
Omega Drivers
Non-updated BIOS
Overclocking

Try-out updating the BIOS if you have a Sager notebook. Turing off over-clocking, and apply proper cooling techniques for the heat.

Other than these suggestions, I have no clue. I haven't played BF1942 since I updated my BIOS and updated to the latest Omega ATI drivers to determine if the artifacts are gone yet.

Already did all three. I actually had already updated the Bios, drivers, and I've always got my fans on max. Not to mention I like working with the window open in the winter so it's like I have year round air conditioning. I was telling someone about it, and he said it was a D3D problem and that he's seen similar problems with Worlf Of Warcraft. More specifically he said it was something with Direct X too. I tried forcing the game to run in OpenGL mode, and Software mode but I got the same results.

same crap

I have this exact same problem, except on my computer its gets even worse with crap all over the screen. I thought it was a heat issue at first, but now im not so sure. I have tried a number of different drivers with all having the sme effect on every game i play. I have SP2 installed and direct XC installed. I think i might try and format C again and try playing games with an older version of directx and no sp2. maybe that will make a difference. Im in Afghanistan so RMAing my computer back to Sager is the option of last resort becuase it will take about 2-3 months to get it back. This computer has worked well for me since i got it when the 8790 came out, but now i cant play any 3d games without this crap appearing and it makes the games unplayable. Im very unhappy. Nothing else to do here except play 3d games and now i cant asdfasdfasdffgsfdgf

I know what that is, it is called an artifect. It usually happens when the Graphics card is overheating. On my 8790 I had the same problem, it was because a lack of the proper amount of coolent gel on my GPU. I sent it back RMA and they fixed the problem.
