Found this gem at soundblaster.com...time to pre-order one for me!

<snip>
The PCMCIA Sound Blaster® Audigy® 2 ZS Notebook opens a new era of possibilities for the notebook user. It delivers features previously only available to PC users but now available to notebook users (even those that are highly mobile). This is achieved by combining ultra-high quality audio with advanced, hardware-accelerated features all in a tiny PCMCIA format card! For instance it delivers THX® certified 24-bit ADVANCED HD™ audio quality playback with incredible 104dB SNR, allowing the highest resolution audio playback with support for DVD-Audio at up to 24-bit/192kHz and Windows Media 9: 24-bit multi-channel audio format.

specs look great on paper. i'm a little curious of how it really handles. and how the drivers act. this might just be the next big IT. right after the hdd and ram upgrade
post #4 of 53
That ought to be awsome..
I wonder if I can sneak this past the wife
post #5 of 53
good job finding that george, but this is old news. pretty sweet tho ain't it?

I'm getting one as soon as they go on sale. They haven't been released yet, end of Oct. as I understand it. I've got the cash saved for a major upgrade when my M6807 comes back from eMachines for the hinges. HD, RAM and a Audigy

Sounds awesome...I was really hoping the PC card would be flush-mount though...if it sticks out it sure takes away from the mobile package, IMO atleast...and if I already have my BT dongle plugged in that's 1 too many things stickin' out

lol wouldnt want too many things hanging out!

Especially when trying to put the lappy away in an older case lol...it looked like it sticks out a bit but not much . And taking it in and out would be a pain..like a USB mouse, an external monitor, external hard drive!
Dang it's nice to finally have a fast computer again (for now!) Now I gotta build a new desktop LOL..it's looking pretty sad!
(Athlon XP 2200+, 60 GB 5400 HD, 512 MB PC2100, Geforce2 MX-400 (hey it was a long time ago and I was stationed overseas..lol hard to find good US-specs parts)

Oh my God. As an avid gamer that is always traveling I am so going to purchase this. I have always held that the fact that our Cpu has to handle the audio end of things is a big drain on our speed. I will purchase this as soon as it comes out!

Now to find some 5.1's
you can look for some 7.1's

Having a bad day, my apologies to David.

he probably saw this

Experience the superior quality of Windows Media™ 9 Pro audio and Advanced Resolution™ DVD-Audio™ in 24-bit quality and full 5.1 surround

but it loks like that is a usb slot on the side, kinda weird, all the other sb's have fire wire ports. But my head set is usb so that will work for me.

wonder how much this bad boy will cost.......150$..???
seems like i started a little fire. but just to be sure every1 gets it quote: "The Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook also provides encompassing 7.1 surround sound ".

yes, it does mean you can sing 7.1 now

i think the price should be around 130-150$
post #15 of 53
The slot is to plug in the additional ports needed for 7.1 sound. the other two slots are Mic and first speaker out I believe.
FiZi is right. Check out this link for a picture of the ports.

interesting... I wonder if it'll be worth it to upgrade, since I already have the Audigy 2 NX, which is USB 2.0 based. The NX comes with the ZS remote but apparently is a little slower in games due to CPU overhead. Does PCMCIA means the same as using the PCI bus on a desktop PC? I am pretty sure this is the 32-bit cardbus interface, though I was always confused with the PCMCIA standard.
^following that link they list it at $129.99

For those of us not upgrading speakers, how much will this improve the sound of built-in laptop speakers, such as the ones in my M505X ??
It cannot play through built-in laptop speakers per the specifications page:

http://us.creative.com/products/prod...emRequirements

You probably could run its audio out to the audio in of a laptop, but that might negate some of the acceleration advantages of the card.

"Headphones or external speakers (Audio will not play through built-in notebook speakers) "

BUMMER. big let down IMO
