New Audio driver says it's for Inspiron 9110 and XPS Gen2 among others.
Where does it say that?

On the first screen when you run installation exe, it lists notebook models the driver compatible with.

My big guess is that the difference between current XPS/9100 will be the usage of PCI-e cards, which will probably be the same speed as they are now. *Shrug* I'm not worried, this MR9800 XPS o mine will be in my heart for years to come!

Yep, and a speed-bump to 3.6ghz with DDR2.

the big question is, since the only announced pci-e mobile card from ATI is x600 based, will there be a simultaneous announcement of an mrx800 (mr9800 in pci-e configuration)? If not, the 9110/xps2 would not perform equally to our systems, unless Dell were to change to the mobile 6800 if it's up to the mr9800 (haven't seen enough on it to know).

and of course, will Dell try the upgradeable video option again. I sure hope that becomes the norm and not just a special issue kind of thing

Fairly certain that Dell and ATI have some agreements in place that would strongly encourage Dell to continue using ATI hardware.

... like exclusive first dibs on a mobile X800, maybe? (just guessing, no inside info here....)

Oh, and if anyone was worried about DDR2 SODIMM's...

I certainly hope teh XPSGen2 looks less like a brick and more like a actual laptop . . .
anyone know when they'll appear on dell's site and how much they're gonna cost??

I seriously doubt that the XPS Gen2 will look very much different from the current XPS. There just isn't any way really to make the cooling system or graphics card smaller then it already is. And for how much stuff is packed in this thing, I'm just glad it's the size that it is and not any larger. I mean, take a look at the new 4400$ top of the line Sager, it's also 2 inches thick, but it's got a 17 inch screen AND a full size keyboard WITH KEYPAD. Can you say broken back?
it's not $4400, it starts around $2500

Um, no, the 2300 dollar machine (The 4000 series) is 1.7 inches thick. The 2700-4400$ machine, the '9800 series' is 2 inches thick. They use different chassis/cases. :P The 9800 series is a whopping 12.5 pounds with battery!!! And I don't think that includes what is sure to be a monster power supply. o.O
post #18 of 61
where do you see a 2700 series sager laptop? i thought it was 8790 or something.

and that's not a 9800 equipped unit that i can tell. it's justa 9700.

The current XPS runs until early next year and then the gen 2 will be out. I could tell you more but I'd have to kill you
