700m: Does Intel 2200 Pro b/g wireless use less power than Dell 1350 b/g wireless?

Thread Starter
I read somewhere that the Pentium M and the Intel 2200 Pro b/g wireless were optimize for power together, thus the Centrino name. However, I can configure the Inspiron 700m with the Dell 1350 b/g wireless. Does this wireless card takes up more power?

I can't say for sure, I know that the wireless card is part of Centrino technology. Honestly I'd just get the 2200 since it's only 9.00 more and you get the pretty Centrino sticker.....

well, they say that the intel one DOES use less power but also has less range... so it's up to you to pick your poison - personally i went with the dell 1350.

I read somewhere before that the Intel card uses less power when in standby than the Dell Truemobile card does .. However at full power the Truemobile draws less power than the Intel card does ..

If you check the details on the website it shows you.

The Intel One sucks a little bit more energy when active but takes almost no energy when off wheras the dell 1350 usually takes about the same. It doesn't really matter that much for battery life (maybe 20 minutes? at most) and I usually need wireless on anyways so I went with the dell. The centrino sticker would've been nice but I can just order that someplace anyways :P

yes but during bootup do you guys get the Centrino logo?

hey Xarthan, did you replace your 700m with the Hitachi 7200k HD? If so where did you order it and does it draw alot of battery power compared to the original drive? I know it's faster and the difference is noticable on my 8600 laptop. Thats why i'm thinking about replacing my 700m HD with the Hitachi 7200k drive once I got it. BTW, is the GAP still selling that case that fits soo nicely with the 700m. I want it and i live in NYC...anyone knows which GAP store in NYC is selling it? Thanks in advance ppl!

I always pull off those stickers. I think they make the notebook look like "rice".

For those of u who want the stickers, go to your local best buy and tell them that the sticker from the lappy that you "bought" from them came off. They usually have spares. Thats how I got one.

if stickers matter that much to you, you people have gone off the edge.

I checked the GAP on 17th and Broadway. They had 5 a couple of weeks ago... dunno if they still sell them.

ttriple,

the gap on 59th & lex had about 15 of them yesterday. i picked one up from there $11.99 - fits perfectly with a bit of room to spare - with room for the ac adapter as well.
