I mis-read your statement. I thought it said you get off 3 days a week. I was going to say that ain't too bad (depending how if you are flying solo or not).

3.4kg is not heavy for a laptop, there are plenty of competitive laptops out there (and lots that dont come close to the area-51m) that weight twice as much, so to be redundant, 3.4kg is about mid-range for laptops. And evenn so, as mentioned, the Area 51m is really intended as a 'portable desktop''.

Still i mean... well lets take it as mastercard style

Area-51m - 3,100$
Doom 3 - 56$
Being able to get the shit scared outta you while in a car then laughing in my little brothers face how ill be playing HL2 soon why he just has his old game boy advanced in the car - Ub3r Priceless

..well almost as simple as that

If you look around these days, 2 hours is a lot of battery life for a full blown desktop P4 processor.

Sounds to me like you are a Sentia candidate...just keep in mind it cannot process hardware T&L.
To add to the original topic of the thread, the 51m is meant to be plugged in, in my opinion. The fact it runs on batteries is like a plus... you can jack it down to way low power settings and use Microsoft word in school with two batteries for the whole day (which is what I do). If you honestly have the time to load up Far Cry or Doom 3, you have the time to plug the cord in because the amount of time it takes to plug it into an outlet = amount of time windows + video game load is.

And about it being heavy... my I don't know what my backpack is in kilos or grams or whatever, but in pounds it weighed 34 before I got my lappy, now with all my lappy stuff and being able to condense my notes onto a hard drive instead of binders it's down to 17 lbs. That includes extra batteries, carrying my AC adapter, one math book, and one binder, as well as a few video games that I play at lunch.

I pack up my ex-harddrive, the laptop, the cooler, the router, the minimum game disks to run any games, dvds if I want them and books, plus clothing to last the weekend, and of course all the connecting cords for every unit. HEAVY! However, it is totally worth it, specially when we get the lan games cranking out at home.

Home, by the way, is my parents place. Can't wait till my dad gets how and we can crank up quake 3 again.

I can game on my machine for 5 hours with doom 3 on one bettery.

Now if i dont game I can get 7 hours easy and normaly push 8.

Yes this is on a labtop that has a mobile 9700 128 meg card in it.

Seriously 2 hours on a notebook is a joke in my opinion. Alienware can make a desktop to somewhat fear if you bought a dell or a compaq. But when it comes to notebook they need to rethink there current operations.

I used to love alienware, but over the past 3-4 years ive started to dislike them more and more :/

Area 51m is not a notebook, its a desktop with a small battery

and the Sentia is a joke. For a company that says they are on the bleeding edge, you would think they would find a notebook manufacture that has the Centrino ability with a real gfx card.

Thats my rant i guess.

Thread Starter
but it looks more and more like the Area51m is like a desktop computer....then why not save $$$ and actualy buy a desktop! the whole point of a laptop is to be mobile! none of this keep it pluged in bollocks, it should be taken out the office, on the train, out to friends etc etc

I agree the area51m is great! honistly i do, the performance is perfect and there prob not many laptops out there that will compair....but its not practical

I don't mind the weight at all.. I could really do with more batterly life. To me, its the battery life that makes AW less portable. Someone please invent a battery for 51m that lasts about 4 hours on gaming.
they said they are working on a secondary battery that you plug into it that will give you many more hours of AW joy.

I forgot who posted it, but I remember someone showing a link to a website that provides an external battery that allows for an extra 4 hours of battery life! It even has the 51m plug. If you guys find the link, let me know
