Articles for all you Centrino fans

Thread Starter
Like some of you out there, I am aiming at getting a centrino laptop. I held off on getting the 3790 when I heard of intel's plans for the new Centrino. I found an article now about what intel is firmly stating as its release date as there apparently were rumors of it being delayed (again).

I thought that the Dothan was the 2nd Gen of the Centrino, so wouldnt the Sonoma be the 3rd Gen?
The dothan is just the processor of the centrino package. "Centrino" includes several powersaving techniques. And, I think that Dothan is technically not the second generation of the Pentium M. I have heard that it was more of just an improvement on the Banias chip.

In the "Sonoma" package there will still be a Dothan Processor used, but with the Alviso chipset the FSB will be 533mhz along with the PCI etc and all the other goodies.

The Centrino's Dothan, Sonoma, Alviso ... chipsets are all made by intel.

Dang, it didn't say anything about HT or dual core, I thought the next M was gonna get that.
Even if they release them in January, you're still looking at late Febuary or March before suitable notebooks become available in good quantity. That's almost 6 months of waiting. I guess it depends on your budget and what you want the machine to do also. You have to buy sometime, otherwise you'll be perpetually waiting for the "next best thing" to come along.

According to the link, Sonoma was slated for midway this year then got pushed to autumn, and finally its been pushed to 1/05. Says that Taiwan manufacturers are already stocking notebooks with the set. Where are you getting the March/April of 05 predictions?
Sonoma is still using the current pentium m. I am sure that the next one will have dualcores

i love it! I wonder what the specs will be in year or two from now when i get tired of my m380! pci on the centrino? is it going to make the notebooks thicker at all?
