What do I need to buy for wireless newtork on dsl?

I have a westel dsl modem for use on bellsouth. I want to set up a wireless network. What hardware do I need? I think all I need is a WAP. Just need to hook up a wireless connection to the laptop.

With the westell, a wireless access point will suffice since the westell has a built in NAT router. With the price difference between a WAP and a full blown Wireless router though, you would be better off going ahead and getting the router and setting the westell to bridged (access point) mode and letting the router handle the DHCP and firewall. Although the westell is a NAT router, it doesn't have any advanced firewall features like you will get from a wireless router.

Yes, you should disable those features on the westel and let the router handle it all.

I know when I first got my DSL (after years of waiting) I tried asking the phone company rep (SBC) if there was a "Geek Package" that just gave me the pipe and I can take it from there...

Needless to say, she was utterly confused and remarked how I'd need to use the SBC-Yahoo browers, dial-in thing (dial in? ) and all the crap on the CD.

It arrived, hooked up my Router, called to ask for some connection specs... no help, did the CD-install with all their bloatware to determine what the info was I needed. Reformatted/Reinstalled my OS (was planning on it anyway) and just programmed my router... rest is history (oh, and write down your info in case your router goes south on you like my linksys POS's did).
