The waiting game

Well I'v been on the wait now for a while...

AMD FX-53 and the radeon X800 XT PE were limited availability (UK user) but the wait was small (30 days top supposedly)... to begin with.

Ordered - 27/8/04

Is it really worth this wait. They emailed me a while ago telling me the X800 XT was in short supply and they may not be able to get one for me, and so I changed to a Ultra 6800. Unfortuanetely they didnt listen, and it took another phonecall for the change to be made; surprisingly they already knew what I wanted to change (including the mouse which I had previously).

Around 10 days ago though they told me on the phone after ringing them for information again, that actually they did have a XT for me... brilliant!! Theyd even changed it back for me... *shrugs* However now they didnt have wires... yep... these take 20 days to order as well apparently...

Worst of all however is the fact that since the beginning of october, the alienware email system ignores my emails. I'v tried sending from different addressed, and sending too different adresses, but no replies apart from the automated ones EVER.

So whats the bet then, should I cancel, or hang in there, hoping that it will ACTUALLY arrive. Oh and btw do I so far have the record for the longest wait

(PS. sorry if its abit ranty, and incoherent )

I can't even begin to imagine how awful it would be to wait that long... I'm only on the second week, and allready I'm falling apart. hang in there! If you've come this far, why bother turning back?

I ordered mine 23/8/04. It would have shipped a couple weeks ago if I had switched to the ATI X800 XT card, so it's partly my fault for the long wait. I've seen some people on here that have pushed more than 100 days of wait time.

oh btw any1 in the UK, or from the UK alienware team know why the emails not been working for the last month?

EDIT: Argh crap, I just read a rumour somewhere that actually Alienware may be facing bankruptcy... as you all know if this happens, they keep our money, and we get no pc. According to a source Iv read, it was because of the expansion alienware is facing, as it recieves more and more customers and can't keep pace. Its hard to explain, but look at an economics textbook to figure it out.

Jekyll,

Are you aware that AW was listed as one of the fastest growing tech companies by Fortune magazine earlier this year? They are in no danger of going belly up...if anything, they're about to expand operations.

thats the point, if a company is expanding too quickly then they may get into vicious cycle. However as I said, this was something I read on some crappy website. Chances are they ARE doing fine. But obviously I am a little paranoid.

Example: Went to customer support on the US site, where u can do live chat. Told him about what I had been told about wires having run out, and how these will take 20 days to order, also that I had been on the wait for 50 days already. On hearing this, he seemed actually stunned... lost for words.

And having then heard that companies tend to delay, and delay and delay their orders when they are approaching over-expansier bankruptsy, I started going

so back to my original questions

Jek,

Its called Backorders...when you cannot get components from suppliers, you cannot build machines. Don't think too much into it.

AW is doing great financially. You don't get into Fortune as a dud.

I'm only thinking about this mate, as obviously I want to hold onto any cash I think might go walk abouts.

True Alienware is probably doing amazingly financially though *smiles* Just hope that I get through this phase game sooner than 70 days + ...
