Logitech MX900 with Dell's bluetooth card

Has anyone tried this mouse with Dells bluetooth module? I'm considering purchasing this for my bday and I'm wondering how it is without using Logitech's bulky cradle. Is it ok for gaming??

I'm using MX900 with dell's BT module for 5 months and pretty happy with it. There is a trick however. When you start windows you shouldn't touch the mouse or touchpad until you get welcome screen and HD is not very busy. Then move the mouse and it will be connected and ready to use in couple seconds. If you move the mouse too early it will not connect and you will have to press the Connect button and discover BT devices... Anyway, it takes much longer then just wait in the beginning. The cradle is used to charge battaries only. You will not be able use all the buttons of the mouse if you are not going to use the cradle.
In games it's doing just fine but I do not play much on my i9100.

pretty much the same story as VRT

I have found the same thing with the MX900. Sometimes even get a random disconnect. I had tried the Microsoft mouse first, now talk about a piece of junk. I do miss the response of the MX700 however. I think I may try out the MX1000 next.

Do you notice quite a bit of delay when using it? Seems like it's a lot slower than the MX700. How long does the battery last you?

It comes with 2 rechargable battaries and you do not even need to get them out of mouse to charge - don't think about how long battaries last. There is a red light on the mouse to show you that it's time to charge battaries. I have to charge it once in 1-2 weeks.

1-2 weeks. wow. I was under the impression these Bluetooth mice only last a couple days.

1-2 weeks of not heavy use. Like 1-2 hours per day. I'm sure it disables BT radio when it's in "sleep mode". Anyway if you will put the mouse in the craddle in nights, you will never see low battary.

The cradle is awesomely convenient. Of course, it needs to be since if you use the mouse constantly, yeah, it only lasts 1-2 days max. On the bright side, it charges quite fast and is very responsive in games, plus you don't need to install anything proprietary to make it work in Windows. I like the MX900 a lot.

I love that mouse...

And yes the BT is going into sleep mode as well, you get that same split-second delay as on the welcome screen when you touch the mouse after a while...

Someone said you can't use all the buttons. Well that is not correct, I installed the Logitech Setpoint software just fine together with the Dell Bluetooth stack. It allows me to program the buttons anyway I like.

Out of the box, without any drivers, the backforward buttons work in any application anyway. The only button that doesn't work without setpoint is the application button, but without setpoint you can't re-program the buttons to do something else like in games.

I haven't noticed it being too slow or have any significant lag. Really don't understand what people are on about here....Perhaps if you are a professional gamer you want to squeeze that extra nano-second out of there, but hey normal people wouldn't know it.

Negatives:
1. There is no on/off switch on it. If you travel a lot like me, you have no option but to remove one of the batteries. This is just plain stupid.
2. I think the built quality could be better. The silver paint is already scratched and the mouse is very light, but to some that may be an advantage.

All in all I could recommend it.

dejongj: Are you using it with the cradle or just with the Dell Bluetooth card?
I despise it. The movement is much more sluggish then the MX700. I trashed it and bought the MX1000 instead
post #13 of 15
I am using it with the Dell Bluetooth...Only use the cradle for charging...

I don't have the MX700 so can't compare against it...But what I have against the MX700 is that it needs a propriatary dongle...For my use that totally defeats the purpose, from my perspective one may as well save a bundle and get the MX510 instead of carrying around yet another bit...

But hey opinions and usage differ...

I use my mouse heavily i get 2 days at most and the MX1000 was terrible because i could not swap out batteries i had to charge it before use again clearly this was not acceptable so the MX1000 had to go still loving the MX900 though

2 days most? odd. i am a heavy gamer, 6 days not charged and it still runs fine, 5 hr use a night
