Anything should work. With how old your hardware is most of it is probably supported right out of the box. If it isn't there has been enough time for someone to have already figured it out. I ran Mandrake with a 2.6 kernel on a PII 333 so you don't have to worry about even a newer disro being to much for your hardware. I have used Mandrake 9 9.1 9.2, 10 and all were easy to install but I didn't like all the extra junk that got installed. I tried whatever the last RedHat before Fedora was, but didn't really like it, never could get the software updating system to work properly. Now I am on Gentoo, everything I have installed was compiled and built specifically for my hardware and I only install what I want, but it is a real pain to get working. Choice is yours.
