Thread Starter
Hi forum,

I have the default McAfee antivirus software installed at the moment but I'm a little worried that it isn't as powerful as other software against all the latest viruses.

Could anyone recommend what they think is best software available please?

Thanks alot.

Kaspersky is the most powerfull, but i prefer nod32 because is also very powerful but you don't note that is running in background , it uses 13 of ram and hardly it needs CPU...

I think Panda is the best, they have a second product call truprevet which will catch around 70% of unknown viruses.

Norton Internet Security has never let a worm, virus, or malicous cookie slip thru. Unlike McCafee and their costant side pop ups Norton only tells me my computer was attacked and beat off yet again. Date of issue 3 weeks ago 2005 edition I am confident Norton will keep doing a fine job keeping my puter safe from the naties of the world last edition bought was I.S. was July of 2003.

Panda Platinum v7 is free for 1yr

I am a PC Tech by trade, and Panda is constantly flagging trojans and other viruses that McAfee and Norton are missing. I typically use the Trend Online Scan (Housecall) in addition to the Panda Online Scan when servicing computers.

On all of my personal pc's I use Panda Platinum v7.

McAfee is perfectly fine. I have had it on all my desktops and notebooks for 4 years and not one virus infection.

not to anger anyone but your all stating opinions on whats the best. Can you refer me/us to some live tests on what is top rated. I also would like to know this. I am currently useing norton and my subscription is going to run out. I don't like the fact norton products take up so much system resources.

Anytime you ask for "what is best" you are going to get opinions. This applies to anything in life........

I base my (antivirus) opinion on real world usage, especially since I deal with viruses and spyware on a daily basis.

McAfee is by far the worst resource hog and uses roughly 35MB of memory. NAV05 runs a close 2nd and it has 10 services and 2 startup items (TSR's), which equates to 8 processes that constantly run on a 2K/XP system.

I've been a Norton person for quite a while now, but truth be told from a IT tech's standpoint, viruses aren't the thing to be scared of. Spyware, Malware, and other junk of that nature is the biggest threat I've seen as of late.

Of course, some nutjob with too much time and too less friends is gonna make another supervirus, but for right now, I'd think any anti-virus is acceptable. Norton, McAfee, AVG, pick your pleasure, throw a condom on your internet connection, and have fun on the Internet!

I use Symantec Corporate because I get it for free. Very little overhead and a powerful removal tool. I'm also a big fan of AVG, and that's what I'd use if I didn't have Symantec.

i use norton too. onli disadvantage is they have tons of programs running in the background.
