Heh and here the last computer I bought for myself was an AMD K7 500 that I built for myself that at the time was fairly top of the line(Equivalent to about an alienware out there then

and cost me about 400 dollars. Helps if you can get stuff cheap.
I bought a laptop that was returned to the manufacturer a year ago that was supposed to get me through college(What is remaining of it) for about eight hundrted dollars, AMD K7 2000+ etc. Still biting that one.
I am saving up for a new laptop since the last one doesnt do audio or linux but so well and those are both requirements for me, that will bite me hard at about 4 grand most likely.
I am a self supporting sollege student who is married and whose wife attends the same college, both of us living off my income. I hardly consider myself rich, but when it comes to computers I rebuild and do anything I can to save money since most repairs I can take care of myself if a part can be salvaged I do it with a lot of time and a soldering iron half the time.
I work audio as much as I can which pays decent, was paid a little over 300 a week last summer and given lodging and most of my bills paid for doing summer stock, which aint all that great pay considering what I could be making during a regular season or if I had worked a tour(Wife would have killed me). While in school I work odd jobs, currently I am working building a set or three for a company near me for 10 bucks an hour, running the tech of their shows for 9 an hour, and the odd union call for show load ins and outs at about 200+ a day(At most 2 days a week usually)
I pay for college via student loans, everything else I make pays for living expenses with a little left over, all this adds up to mean that I Have NO LIFE at all between school and the multiple jobs(Typically no more than 3 at a time though thankfully, Though I did just get asked to surpervise an audio install which would be my 4th job running currently, that is how I plan to pay for laptop

.
So essentially I work my arse off to have enough money for the highest quality things that I will be using for my work(By the way I attend college for sound design, thus the need for a high quality audio laptop).
Hope it answers the original question.

PS I also worked in retail for several years before returning to college.
PPS I do NOT recomend this route to ANYONE unless sleep is absolutely a bane of your ecxistance.
PPS I dont have a big e-penis

PPPS To many p's, and I will be paying about 20+ grand in student loans when I leave school most likely. Yea I am that poor, had to rebuild my apartment we moved into to save some money, ended up costing me at least a months rent to rebuild it because I didnt trust the landlord to do it right.
