just purchased a hp/compaq nx7000, any reviews?

I just ordered a nx7000 from pcconnection.com, it will be here most likely tomorrow or thursday. I will be posting some picture and test score then. In the mean time, does anyone have any reviews on this laptop? It's so new I was scared to make the purchase. It's a 15.4" WXGA, 40gig,DVD/RW, ATI9200 32mb,pentium M 1.4. The battery life is rated at 5 hours. I just recently returned my laptop which was a Dell 600M because the SXGA+ screen with a 14" laptop killed my eyes. I scored a 890 with the 600M at pcpitstop. what are your laptop's score?

thats a pretty sweet looking laptop. I cant find any reviews of it online but its new so you get to be the first one ;-) Id love to see if it actually gets 5 hours, on the compaq site you can get a 64mb 9200 card but no 5400rpm 40gig HD. grrr. Also, the resolution goes up to wuxga or something rediculous like that. 1920X1200 I think. que rediculo! hows the warranty? I dont know what compaq/hps reputation is like, but I really dont like many hp products because of their software (scanners/digital cameras etc) make sure you give us all the scoop!

damn, that is a nice computer, i still dont understand the whole centrino thing, it seems to outscore chips way faster then it is, can someone explain this to me? Thanks, i might end up buying this compaq for school.... i also heard the radeon 9200 really stinks

well...

In the mean time, does anyone have any reviews on this laptop?

heh, you should have researched before hand...new computers are usually a big investment.

basically the centrino peforms better because it has more cache, 1mb as opposed to 512k on normal cpus. or something.

I was also lokin atr compaq presario x1000 which is the same lappy, you can find it on hp site and also fully customize it,I customized this one 1.5 ghz,512 mb ra,40 gig hd(no 40 gig 5400 arghhh!!!),radeon 9200 64 mb sxga+ and it was 1750 and plus mail in rebate 100 bucks which comes to 1650,I must say really sweet price for that kind of machine and also you got free shiping!!I haevent found any reviews on it yet and I looked everywhere so I figured out that is the best to waait a litlle bit till someone comes out with some review,I guess so that you will be the first one.So as soon you get it post some pics(cause on hp site is only one pic!!!) and write a full review.Enjoy your lappy!!

you can be sure of it, lota pics and reviews for everybody. It should get here thursday so expect pictures by afternoon or something. Can't wait, I recommend not ordering from hp.com or hpshopping.com they charge sale tax and stuff. If you just go on pricegrabber.com, they will have reseller that offer the stuff for free shipping and no tax plus it carry the same manufacturer warranty, you can even buy extended warranty from them. Just like you don't go to sager to purchase the laptop but you would go to pctorque. The only question I have now is the construction build of this laptop. Is it magnesium alloy or plastic casing? HP is so unclear with their description. And trust me, the pentium M is the king of laptop processor, battery life is great and speed is better than I imagine with a slow laptop hd.

how is the 9200 different fromthe 9000? what about the 9100? so many questions!
Actualy 9200 is almost like 9000 but the thing that distinct it from 9000 is agp x8 and 9000 is agp x4

review nx 7000

Oh I completly forgot that infact there is a full review of nx 7000.Go and buy latest Laptop Magazine you have full review of it,they tested compaq presario x1000 but that is the same model same components and everything just diferent names but same company. On 3d mark 2001 it scored 7500 and litlle more above and they named it as a best buy!!

but on other places besides hp.com you can't customize it

what screen is on the x7000, the wuxga?

The compaq version (x1000) is more configurable with more high end options with better pricing.

The case is aluminum.

The 9200 is 8x and it also is set at higher gpu and mem frequencies.

For anyone else interested, you can actually use a coupon to get another 10% off (SV7095). I think it expires on the 12th though.

I have been looking at this computer for a week now and have finally decided it is the best route to go for me. The sager 4060 is getting sent back. I configured with 128MB of mem, the 1.5 proc, integrated wireless, integrated bluetooth, WUXGA screen, and a 60GB 4200 drive. With the coupon that comes to 1626.20 before $100 rebate. Pickup another 512MB from Crucial for $112 and you have a much nicer machine than a simlilarly configured 4060 (2.4, 512 MB) for around $50 less.

But that is just my opionion. Better screen, much cooler most likely, lighter, nicer vid card, longer batter life..

It does not have as high of a FSB and used PC2100 versus PC2700 in the 4060 but for what I do, programming and gaming, the x1000 is the better deal.

It does not have a floppy though. There is a usb floppy available from HP for $50 that comes with a $50 mail in rebate when you buy it with this laptop though.

there are more minor pros and cons to both these laptops, these were just the major conerns for me. Sorry, couldn't edit my original post.

so basically the nx7000 is the x1000 except they put it in the business laptop section instead of the home/small business section? I feel kinda ripped off. I don't get the 100 rebate or the free carrying case. and if i configured it correctly, I would save around 100 on hp website. oh well, my system will get here tomorrow. and they already charged my card and if i want to return it's going to cost 15% restocking fee. I guess i'll just have to live with a 100 dollar lost rather than 170 dollar lost. I will post pics and benchmark tomorrow when it get here. But hey, this system looks great doesn't it?
yup thanks to you, i am also buying one, an x7000 from pcconnection, i configured the same thing @ hp.com and it was more money, what shipping did you get? was it free?

vu059, i'm thinking of getting the compaq x1000. In the networking options, it looks like you can either choose the modem and NIC or the wireless but not both. Do you know if you choose the wireless option if the modem and NIC come with that as well?

if you call pc connection and order they give free shipping, on the website they charge like 40 i think. for the nx7000 it come with modem gigabit ethernet and wireless...i dun think u get all 3 with the x1000. and if you order by phone with pc connection you can also split the order through multiple credit cards as a perk lol i had to use 2 cards.

I noticed the $100 mail-in-rebate. But where would I apply the coupon? I can't find the option like on the Dell order page, where it says enter coupon code.
